new "canvas"

Gary it's really nice to see these final shots. I'm sure it makes your heart ache a little, but the end of one thing means the beginning of something new - which is exciting!
I'm still happy for you that the move went smoothly and look forward to Junior's thread!

but I'm sure some posts might pop up in this old thread from time to time :)

here's a link to the new thread and continuation of my reef aquarium which is now called Junior's Reef

thanks!

thanks!

quite frankly, my camera is nothing special.
I've always used a refurbished unmodded Canon PowerShot A510.
I also got a PowerShot A560 for macros. These are extremely inexpensive and very portable cameras.

Make sure to follow the newest pictures of this aquarium in my new thread called

Junior's Reef

this tank is very inspiring. like to copy this in the future.
I have a engineering question regarding the support of this big tank on the main floor. I noticed from the picture you have some sort of black steel pipe supporting from the basement floor. Can you talk about that? thanks

two steel support jacks (sold at Home Depot/ Lowes etc.) are holding up a wooden 4 x 4 that spans floor joists. It's nuthin' fancy but it works. I wrapped the steel supports in plastic wrap because of their close proximity to the sump. This prevents them from oxidizing.

hi gary,
have another question regarding dsb, obviously you don't use it in your system. as a new reefer i have heard lots of good things about it. what is your view on this.

thanks

avoid placing a DSB in the display unless specific species require it in there.

Remote DSB can be a useful addition to a reef system IMO/IME.
