New Carpet Anemone

We had been eyeing this one particular Carpet Anenome for about 6 months, it was very dull, and colorless, but seemed to be in good health, the Fish Store had really bad lighting. They had discounted this poor thing this weekend, and we finally chose to bring her home, and WHOLEY COW did she look TOTALLY different under our lighting. She was actually GREEN!!! Not Tan

Anyway...I snapped a couple of pics with my dying camera as she was settling in...I hope to get a new camera soon, so I can take some better pictures, she is really beautiful, we had no idea how beautiful she really was until she was in our tank under our lighting. I wish I would have snapped a picture with my phone of what it looked like in the Fish Store..

Anyway, There was a Clarki Clown that had been hosted it, so we purchased him as well, I look forward to snapping some pics of him snuggled down hosting her. Anyway...Here are some pics...Let me know what you think:lol2:

I wanted to do a Clam, but since this tank is a "Joint" project with my wife, she won this one and got her Anemone. Looking at it in the shop, I was like..."Are you serious?, its so BLA" But she swore it was healthy and she had been eyeing it for over 6 months, and nobody had purchased it yet, And when we got it home and aclimated it to the tank I was blown away at how different she looked...I am kind of in awe, and had to give my wife props for the good call on the new addition to the tank...

Get a pair of clowns instead of one. You will be happy that you did. One thing you and your wife should know about s. haddoni is that he may eat one/some of your fish. Having light at night and clown fish help in keeping fish from accidentally ran into him and become anemone's food.
Nice catch, especially since it was in the LFS for 6 months.

Also, you're lucky that your wife shows such a vested interest in your tank! My fiance likes my tank but tends to prefer to be a 'simple observer' and let me do all the work/make the decisions. (OK by me as well )

We had done our research, and felt the risk was worth it, we just have some Chromis, a Royal Grama and sixline wrasse....So nothing Super fancy or expensive, So far they all have avoided it perfectly.

We also have LED nighlights that come on automatically when the main lighting goes off...

Thats cool though, at least she is ok with your hobby...We also keep reptiles, and I know many people who's spouses are afraid of say snakes, and I would imagine it would be hard to fully enjoy your hobby if your spouse hated the very thing you where interested in.

I am lucky in that my wife is just as fanatical as I am about our hobbies, that can sometimes lead to trouble, It can lead to both of us spending way to much money on our hobby...lol, its like two fat kids who both like the same kind of candy...lol:lmao:

That I am not sure of, we bought her as a Haddoni...I have never read anything about the color of the mouth before....:hmm2: The only thing I have researched is that thier "Mouth is more Obvious"....and that is has a "tentacle-free oral area"....but nothing about color...

At a local M&P Saltwater Fish Store, My wife I guess had been keeping an eye on it for the last 6 months, everytime we would go in there she would check on it, it never moved, they never got any others in, and it just sat there, all tan and colorless (They didn't have good lighting) Finally they had a sale on it, so my wife said lets get it, I personally didn't want it, as I am not really much of an Anemone person, but since its a joint project tank, I went with it. We had the perfect spot setup which was suposed to be for a Clam (My choice) We had talked to the guy about it, he said he recieved 2 Carpet Anemone's in about 6-7 months ago, he after 4 months finally sold one, but that nobody was interested in them (If he had better lighting I am sure they would have sold much faster) He said it was feeding and had done very well since it had arrived, which my wife confirmed as she is in this shop more than I am. So we promptly paid the nice lady at the register for the Carpet Anemone and the beautiful Clarki Clownfish that was hosting it...It wasn't until we got it home and under our lighting when my Jaw dropped at how beautiful it actually was....I can't even describe how different it looked...it went from a very drab/dull tan/brown to a beautiful multicolor/multipattern Green color...it was amazing, and I found myself up till 2am watching it bury its foot in the sand...very fascinating....needless to say, I am now a Anemone person...lol

I am very happy with it, and so is my wife....:thumbsup:

Beautiful anemone. How much room do you have? Keeping a carpet doesn't preclude you from having a clam? The lighting requirements are similar.... I have had clams touching BTA before with no problem, not sure about carpets and touching but if there not touching you should have no issues... Keep both of you happy.

We had built a little "Cove" out of live rock that was supposed to be for a Squamosa, But now that there is a Carpet Anemone there, I have other places I can do maybe a Maxima up on the rockwork somewhere...its all good, I liked the looks of some of the Squamosas but I am very picky on them, now that the spot is taken, I will shift my focus on finding the perfect Maxima...:bigeyes:

It was just in that particular spot, I had plans for a Sand Dwelling Clam, but instead there is a Sand Dwelling Carpet Anemone now..Its all good..I will still get a clam, I just will get a different kind, or if I find the perfect Squamosa I will place it somewhere else...not in the cool "Cove" area..

Without a doubt it is an S. Haddoni. The yellow mouth isn't why it is a Haddoni. I have 5 of them, and only one has a "colored" mouth.

As for keeping a clam with them, I haven't had any issues with that. In fact, about a year and a half ago I had a crocea clam that was touching one of my Haddonis without issue to either one,

That is an amazing picture, I was the one that placed our Carpet in the tank, and I will tell you, it was challenging...Talk about the stickiest thing I have ever encountered... It was like if one little piece touches your hand, your screwed...next thing you know its all over your hand....:hmm2: I had to use a shallow tuperware (New) to try and place it where we wanted it...

I was totally would have thought placing anything next to a Carpet Anemone would be doomed, infact I moved many of my corals that where within 6-8 inches away from the anemome just incase...Its really interesting to see your picture...they are literally touching:bigeyes:

Yea, that is why I will never touch any of my Haddonis without gloves on. They still stick to the gloves but not nearly as much as bare hands.

Anything else that has touched my Haddonis haven't faired too well, but for some reason the clam wasn't bothered one bit.
