I purchased a Crocea clam and it opened the first day but has been closed ever since (about 4 days now) I did notice the bicolor blenny picked at it twice and the clam shot back into its shell immediately. is the bi color blenny not safe to have with the clam?

some blennie's aren't clam safe, just depends on the particular fish. Try cutting a plastic bottle in half and then put plenty of holes into it. Cover the clam with the bottle for a few days, this should keep the fish away from the clam. If the clam opens up you then should know if the fish is the problem.

bicolor blennies are known to nip at clams, ( and you have seen it ) you have a decision to make if he hasn't already made it for you. :(

thanks for the advice. Lets see what happens

Well its been in the bottle for 2 days and it opened up fully both days, so now I have made the decision to bring the bi color blenny back to the fish store. I will remove the bottle and the fish and see what happens.

good news........ good luck catching the blenny

I was thinking the same thing, but at feeding time instead of feeding I waited until he swam to the top and stuck the net in and grabbed him, he didn't know what hit him. I gonna miss the little fella.

here's the clam for the 2nd straight day with out the bi color blenny

he still looks a little stressed but he may still be getting used to being left alone. he also may be a bit to close to that coral ( frogspawn? ), they can be aggressive.

One other thing for your lil crocea.....put it on a rock. they aren't sand bed dwellers and need something to attach to. that'll make it a much happier camper.

I placed the clam on the rocks last night, I checked it this morning before I went to work, it was still up there . lets hope when I get home from work that its still up there.
