Here is my new clam, just got it an hour ago. I think it looks good and as far away from the distributers(LA) as Oregon is I think that this is pretty good. Paid $54 for it.

Very nice. How big is the crocea?

i would say about 3 1/2". i think it is just big enough to survive. it was under t5's for months. the LFS said they couldnt sell it. dont know why.

Since when is Oregon far from LA distributers?

when it comes down to livestock that is a long way. there is so much cherry picking that goes on down there at distributers. all of the LFS here go down there once in a while, and if you have proof of a store front you can go in and take what you want "picking and choosing" what is left is sent to all of the other fish stores during the week. this is just what happens. geographically no, livestock wise, yes. very far.

Dude 3 1/2" is nearly half grown for a croecea! he'll totally survive, my croecea is about 2" now, he was like 1.25" when I got him. I like croeceas, but much prefer maxximas, and my dereasa is freaking sweet, especially when he gets to be a big monster! I LOVE clams.

gratz,
andy

Just an FYI, much of that "cherry picking" is done by other smaller distributors (often just some dude with a basement full of holding tanks). In fact probably much moreso than stores in the area. Those distributors then call the pieces they get rare and jack the prices up for other stores in the country to purchase.

Anyhow, it's a nice looking clam and I like the pattern.
