Hi All,
I purchased my second clam this past Saturday. A small (a little bigger than 1") ORA blue maxima. I stupidly did not look at the bottom of the clam before taking it home. When I did get it home it would not attach and still wont attach to the anything I put it on. I tried high on the rocks, low in the sand (with a flat rock right below the sand). It won't attach. When I did finally turn it over to look at the bottom I saw a hole on the opposite side of the hinge. I don't see a foot or any bysall threads. Is the foot just withdrawn or dead? The hermits I have won't leave it alone when I put it in the sand. I am thinking about trying to put a pvc pipe around it so hopefully the crabs will leave it alone.
My first clam was a gold maxima that immediately attached and has doubled in size in the 6 months or so that I have had it.
Thanks for any advice you can offer.
