I'm not so sure about that Salty Critter place! Just Kidding. Thanks Shawn for taking time to talk with me.

The beer must be hitting me pretty hard tonight, I'm watching my new snails and crabs get around the tank and I'm just amazed at how quick these things get around! One of the crabs has circled the tank in under 20mins =) LOL

Amused,

Not a problem at all, thats what I am there for. I think you will be happy with the decisions, I think for this tank it was the way to go.

What all did you end up getting? I am sure Shawn had some good ideas for your tank. What decisions did you end up making? Let us know how things went...

I ended up getting about 30 snails and 20 or so crabs, which I'll prob need more snails but I wanted to see how things went with 30. Shawn and I talked about sumps and skimmers mostly. I decided that instead of buying some LR that I would upgrade my skimmer because I don't think its doing a good job at all. I purchased a Remora hang on skimmer to replace the Prism skimmer I have now. I like the Remora because it will push more gph and it skims off the top with a hang on over flow box.

As for building my sump, I don't think I'm going to have the $$ to buy a bigger show tank anytime soon so to build my sump I'm going to look for a used 40 breeder and put a sump together with that. Then when I'm ready to buy a new tank I'll have a sump setup that can handle it.

My thoughts were sometimes buying ahead works sometimes it does not. There was an algae problem beginning among things and the skimmer seemed like the definate weak spot. I had thought the only real reason he wanted a sump was to a) get rid of surface scum and b) for the future tank. The Remora Pro, is a good sized skimmer for that tank which was needed plus with the overflow box fixes the surface film problem. This seemed the most cost effective thing to me, as he did not want to buy equipment twice which I understand. But had he tried to piece a sump and skimmer together for later, he would be spending more money than this on a skimmer for a 150+, sump, as well as an overflow box and plumbing that he would not use on the next tank, so either way there is money going to be lost. This route to me was less up front cost, and he can sell the skimmer and recoup a good deal of it. Plus now he is up and running with a skimmer that is 10x better than before which was the definate weak spot. I admit I did not realize you were still going to go with a sump right away for the 65 if that is my understanding from your post though.

Not right away, but if someone posts a 40 breeder for sale cheap I would probably buy it and take my time getting all the pieces for the sump ect.
