Hi im a newbie and i just picked up my pair of orange and white clowns from my LFS, but my females eye when i picked her up was a bit puffy, but now they have been in the tank for 6 1/2hrs and it is getting worse its about 3-4 times the size of the males eyes?? any sugestions on what could be worng or what i can do to fix her?? Thanks :(

do saltwater fish get pop-eye? I used to have a fresh water tank and occasionally I would get one with this.

First, I wouldn't buy a fish with signs of disease. If you can exchange it.. maybe worth a shot. But if you want to try to treat it, you can try. I'd call the store and tell them about it. They should work with you. If they don't, it is a bad store. If you treat the fish or keep it for a while, they may not honor a return/exchange.

It could be due to an injury and clear up on it's own with good water parameters and quality food. It could be a result of water quality at the store, and will improve in your tank too.

It could also be a disease/parasite, you may want to consider treatment. Try a prazipro dip. Eye Flukes maybe?

Yes, saltwater fish can get popeye - and it sounds like this is what it may be. I agree with gweston that you should NEVER buy a fish that shows any signs of disease (there are exceptions such as extreme rarity, but should only be undertaken by experts). Now that you do have it though, and if the store isn't willing to exchange/work with you on it (don't go back then) you are going to have to QT the fish and buy some maracyn 2. Let us know what happens.

Thanks for all the advice guys, went to
my LFS this morning and took the sick clown back they where very appologetic and swaped it for another one:-) which has paired up with the previous clown no problems.

That's a good LFS --

I had a barlet and had the same thing - after researching and asking, it was an injury, and went down on its own in a few weeks. I could not believe how big that eye was, truly grotesque
