New clownfish pair

Just got my first clownfish pair. They have spawned before in my buddies tank. How long before they start spawning again. I acclimated them using shot glass of water every 5 min for 30 min. When will they eat regularly too?should i keep the lights off? Thanks for the help ahead with of time!

Just because they spawned for someone in a different tank does not mean they will for you.

If they do, it can take months for them to feel ready. I have 8 breeding pairs and if I mess up with a lighting schedule some will stop spawning for a month or two. You also need to feed a high protein food, meaty food, and keep the temp, salinity and lighting steady. You are trying to mimic the natural conditions that cause fish to spawn.

Good luck.

Thanks all. Its a Newly set up tanks going through diatom once that's done things will be easy keep track of.
12 hr photoperiod (led)
83°F (28.3 C)
Ph 8.2-8.4
0 ammonia nitrite and nitrates
Feeding 4 times a day (lrs fish frenzy, new life spectrum, brine shrimp (live and frozen), Sustainable aquatics hatchery pellets) i am using selcon also. Hoping they spawn soon!

I read around and do u guys drop the temp, then jack ot up to stimulate summer? Also do u use a nightlight to mimic the moon? What salinity? I have the led light with 6-8 actinic blue.. Should i switch it to night mode at night? (just blue led on) or leave it pitch black

Playing with the temperature might get you some results with freshwater or subtropical saltwater fish but Amphiprion spawn pretty much all year round, regardless of season.

Same goes for light, though they will sync with the moon phases for the hatching of the larva. So unless you are going to simulate moon phases I would either turn the lights off or just leave the faintest bit of blue moon light.

In my experience the best trigger are a few other fish. In smaller tanks (80x40x40 cm³) I either added a pair of dottybacks (Pseudochromis fridmani work best) or a pair of damsels (Chrysiptera parasema, C. hemicyanea, C. cyanea).
In larger tanks I added a pair of marine bettas.
All these fish will usually readily spawn if large enough and with all that sex going on the clownfish will get horny in no time :D

Really, so adding another pair of breeding fish will trigger a spawn? In the same tank? Seems a little odd. I think ill just wait a couple months with stable water conditions and feed and see what happens.

Also if you saw my other post how. Does Their diet look, NLS pellets, LRS fish frenzy, brine shrimp, SA hatchery feed. Thinking about adding squid, cyclop eeze and oysters to diet.

Really getting eager for them to breed. Im slowly lowering salinity to 1.020. 83°f. Other parameters are good. 16 hr photoperiod. Once salinity is consistent. They should breed within a month!

It's the hormones released into the water. The other pair(s) doesn't have to be in the same tank, just in the same system. Worked every time for me, even with relatively freshly made pairs.

They just spawned! Will post pictures tomorrow!
Congratulations!

Thank you. I have gotten a lot of help from this website and is part of my success. I will probably collect next batch of eggs. Need yo order my rotifers and set up a hatch tank!

Looks a bit scattered, like a beginner clutch. After they get more practice the eggs should get more compact.
