New Coral!! elegance coral

Do you like Phil Collins?
Stopped by a local pet store today and got lucky as soon as i got there the UPS man was dropping off goodies!!!

I got a HUGE BRAIN CORAL its about the size of both my fists. Its very nicely colored blue and white pink and green i will have some picks tomorrow.

The real reason for this was to ask a question. They also got in 2 elegance corals they are beautiful, one is white and pink with about 8 mouths the other is green and blue yellow and has like 5 mouths. They are very big about 8-10 inches long. They are 49$ do you think that a good deal and are they hard to keep. If they stay there longer then about 5 days they are going to die!!

errr. if the LFS can't keep them why did they order them??? If the LFS can't keep them then I would let them be so that they won't order more in the future. Otherwise they will order more and sell it to people that don't have systems to support them.

I dont know, Elegance usually dies. But if you get lucky you might get one that will live. If you get one that will thrive, 49.00 is a steal I think. If they look good I would give it a shot.

$49 is about 1/2 of what you would normally find one for, at least what I have seen. As Phillip mentioned, they do not have the best survival rate. From what I have read, there is some difference in the coloration vs. the depth at which they are found and the more shallow water corals/color have the better survival rate. I "think" they also may need a more nutrient rich tank......... do not go by this opinions vary, this is just what I read. I had one a couple years ago, it made it about 4 weeks before it began to receed.............and do they stink when they die.

I hate to say it but I agree with Piper on this. I don't like to see things die but if we continue to buy animals with poor rates of survival the shops will continue to order them and the wholesalers will continue to import them. I guess it really depends on how you look at this hobby. Some see coral as an expendable thing (i.e. a plant) if it dies no big deal, while others like me see them as true animals I mean I even named one yeah that's bad :) Either way it's a good deal but I always say you get what you pay for in this hobby. Best of luck however you choose.
