new dersa clam!

can anyone give me some tips on this kind of clam. i already have a crocea that is healthy and happy. i bought the dersa today and photobucket wont let me upload any pics. ill try tomorrow. thanks in advance! i currently have him set in the sand in a bright spot.

You shouldnt have any trouble with it as long as the crocea is doing well.

That looks almost exactly like mine. I also had a crocea before my derasa. I ended up selling it when I deployed last. Derasa's don't require as much light as a crocea, but I'm not sure what their upper limit is. If they're like most other invertebrates, I'm sure it will adapt quite well as long as it's properly acclimated.

Also, hopefully you realize that clam is going to get far too big for your Aquapod (if that's indeed where you have it), so have a plan for what you're going to do with it when it does. I believe derasas can grow up to a foot or more in length.

yea i am planning to move him into my boyfriends 120gal when he gets to big but for right now i thought he looked really pretty and i am a clam sucker....

We bought two small ones for my kids from Reefscience since they are local and they were blue lipped Derasa`s.

We placed them in the sand bed with a small flat piece of rock under their foot area to attach to. Well they moved a little sideways and then settled in and then grew and grew and grew. They have a growth rate that far exceeded the rate in our crocea in the same tank. They have probably tripled to quadrupled in size over the last yr or more

If you have luck with the crocea you shouldn't have any issues with these. Glad I got my 210g almost ready as these are going in there so they can grow more
