new driver

roger, I had a small electrical problem this morning that caused a ext. cord to over heat and melt the plug and the begining of the wire from the driver on my stream 6000. Before I saw how damaged it was I pluged it into a new surge protected power strip and it imediatly shorted out the surge. My question is, Can the driver be replaced, if so how would I go about getting one? also is there a chance that the unit as a whole (driver, Controller, and Stream) are damaged to a point of being ruined and need to be replaced. the damage is melting to the actual plug and about one inch up the cord. The initial damage was not caused from the stream, I belive it was caused from a faulty 3 outlet ext. cord ran from the main strip.

after looking at a couple of other posts I think what cord is melted is from the transformer and not the driver. (black round disk).

I think it is best to send it in. All parts are in stock but a surge could have destroyed the entire unit ao it best to test everything rather than risk ruining expensive parts that won't fix it.

Roger I do have another 6000 stream that was on the same strip, it is still in perfect working condition. do you think it would be a bad idea to take the transformer from the working stream to test. And when you say to send it in do you mean the entire kit? and where would I need to send it to? Thanks.

You can try that, the transformer is unlikely to be damaged by a test run. If it works let it run for an hour or two and check the transformer for getting to hot and let me know and we will decide how to procede.

I tried swithing the transformer from the working stream to non working. The controller was alternating the pulse lights, but the light indicating the stream was on did not come on and the stream was not on. I left it on for about 2 minutes and felt the transformer it definetly increased in heat but I wouldnt say that it got hot but I imagine it was on its way, so I switched it back to the good stream. Do you think that there is any thing that could be done to fix? Or should I just chalk it up as a loss and Get a new one?

Send it in. If all three parts, driver, motor and transformer it isn't worth fixing but if even one part is good it is definitely cheaper.
