New EOS 7D

Jumped into a DSLR for the first time and went with a Canon 7D through the recommendation of an avid photographer in the family. Boy am I impressed on how fast this camera is and the quality of the pics. I've only had it for a couple of days so I've been mostly shooting in auto mode/ no flash on the aquarium and haven't messed with the setting much. Even the AWB does a pretty good job of getting the colors pretty good. I'm shooting with the stock lens it came with (EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM). Very nice camera thus far.

Here are 4 sample pics. All shot in full auto. None have been photoshopped except for the Anthias shot that I cropped. These were all shot in jpeg not RAW.

Not bad for your first shots. You'll be really pleased once you break out of auto mode and start really working the camera as it's meant to be, the quality of your pictures will continue to grow and grow and one day you'll be like wow, did I take that?

Thanks Recty. I purchased a DSLR camera precisely so I can work it manually. I really look forward to taking a better picture than the auto mode can. What's been really cool so far for me is how easy I can take pictures of my fish. The AF is really fast so taking decent pictures of moving fish is much easier.

The camera's stock lens is a EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM. Any suggestions on futre lens purchase specifically for shooting aquarium shots? I'm thinking of an L series 70-200mm F/2.8 IS for outdoor shots.

I been looking at getting the sigma 150mm macro for aquarium shots (the extra working distance would be nice). I don't mean to hijack the thread, but anyone have any comments on this lens in particular? How do you think it would compare to the canon 100mm USM (which I have rented, and love quite a lot, I am just thinking if I can get the same quality in the sigma with more distance, well then that is all that much better).

(I am aware of the other features of the sigma 150mm, larger size, slower focus, etc, I am only concerned about the image quality between these two lenses)
