New ESL Release

ESL is one step along that direction. Once programmed, your lights no longer have to be plugged in. However, if you would like to access your lights from a remote, mobile device, you must have at least one light plugged into a computer running the connection manager and then you can access all of your lights via any other internet enabled device by going to www.ecosmartlive.com and logging in.

Just want to make sure i'm understanding this correctly --- ESL won't be totally wireless? it will allow you to control your lights wirelessly from one device as long as one of the lights is plugged into another device via the usb cable???

Does anyone know how to import a project (etp) file into ecosmartlive? I grabbed a schedule from another site that I want to use and all that is included was the project file. I think there used to be an open project command under file in the software but can't see that on ecosmartlive.

You are correct. The biggest feature I was hoping for when ESL was announced was the ability to be totally wireless, but it hasn't happened.

I was on the phone with John trying to trouble shoot my radion not updating to the newest firmware, we could not get it figured out so he has it scheduled for you to call me tomorrow. I have kept trying to get it to update and I was finally successful

It sounds like the new update is finally working for you. If not, please let us know and we will get you up and running ASAP. If it is working, what problems did you encounter and how did you resolve them?

Few Question :

Do we need to update firmware on the new Genx2 ?

Do we need also Java 64-Bit or 32-Bit good also ?

It depends on when you purchased your Gen2. The current firmware version is 1.6.10. If your light requires a firmware update, EcoSmart Live will display a red icon near the Radion icon and state that an update is required.

Regarding Java, you can download either version.

Can I do this?:

I purchased 2 G2's a few weeks ago and have been using them off of an old PC with a USB connection.

I'd like to (if possible) use ESL on my 1 year old Macbook Pro so I can program my lights wirelessly, etc.

Can I import my graph from my PC to my Mac (perhaps email it to myself and open/import on the mac) and now use ESL for a "seamless transition"?

Has anyone else gone from using one computer to another? Are there any issues with doing this, or bumps along the way?

You can certainly use EcoSmart Live (ESL) on your MacBook Pro. The easiest way to transition from the EcoSmart Config Utility (PC app) is to first export your schedule using the Export button just above the graph. Then register, log into ESL and download the Connection Manager for your Mac. Install the Connection Manager, connect a Radion and ESL will automatically start the Aquarium Setup. This will allow ESL to find your lights and add them as one group. You can also perform firmware updates and program a default schedule. Once you have finished the setup, you can simply go to Schedule Actions > Import Schedule above the graph to upload the schedule that you exported from the PC app. Program once more and enjoy.

EcoSmart Live supports schedule files, which have a ".etg" file extension. You can export schedules from the EcoSmart Config Utility (PC app) as well as EcoSmart Live. Feel free to try schedules from the community and also share your own.

To import or export schedules in EcoSmart Live, you can go to the Schedule Action > Import/Export features above the schedule graph.

yes, it will. It's best to set a constant moonlight intensity during your night time hours by setting the night time point at 3% for one color and the day time point at 3%, then let the lunar cycle take care of the rest.

If you want there to be complete darkness after a certain time in the night, say 4am, then you should set the night time point to 3% for one color and create a 4am point at 3% followed by a 4:05am point at 0%. Then there will be moonlight adjusted by the lunar cycle from 8pm to 4:05am and nothing until daytime begins.

Let me know if you understand.

I am such a dummy, all this time I thought the world was so simple, that the moon rose at sunset and set at sunrise. I never reallised that the moon was only in the nightsky for a couple of hours.

I looked into it more, and it seems that the moon rise/set times change over the course of the month. With this new update, it only changes the intensity to simulate the phases of the moon, correct? At some point will it adjust the moon set/rise points over the month?

If there's anyone else who needs info on this topic, here are 2 links that helped me.

same here. been using the older version but decided to make the switch and everything is up and running. I did have some minor issues at the beginning during discovery but a refresh of the site got everything going again.

thank you very much for responding ---

to solve my question from a different post with regard to operating wirelessly, will these lights work with a wireless usb device plugged into one of the units in place of the hardwire? If this is possible, it would seem that I could then control my lights wirelessly from my mac via ESL.......correct?

The lights currently need a PC/Mac host regardless. You could hook them up to a wireless USB port sharing device but it still will need a computer running on the other end in order to get onto the internet to interact with ESL.

right --- that i can do, i would control everything from my mac --- my tank is an inwall, and the canopy access is from the back which make it a PITA to control w/ the usb hardwired. If i could use the wireless usb connection (it appears that there is such a thing after a quick google search, but i've never used one) while logged onto ESL, I should be in business --- thats what i'm trying to confirm

its stuck on "loading devices"

Can anyone confirm a fix to this issue? Looks like the program has been saved however it never re-loads the radion after its saved. I left it for about 30 minutes with it saying "loading devices".

Will a restore to factory settings help this issue?
