New Fish!

Just got my new fish! A golden wrasse. He ate at the fish store, and looked good. After I put him in my tank he began to swim around. Now he seems to be staying at very top of the water. Is this normal? My params are good and everything.

I have a royal gramma and a black percula clown. The wrasse has gotten stuck to the filter intake atleast 5 times. Should I just shut it off?

I would at least for the night. Both those fish can be very aggressive.

I saw my gramma go after him, but he was in my gramma's "territory". Right now the wrasse is just laying against the glass, he's breathing pretty heavy.

Thank you. I think he was just stressed. I called my LFS and they said they would replace it. So that's one upside.

Sorry to hear that man.......... Careful with replacing with the same shape, size, color and/or genus of fish.

It happens man. You never absolutely know what fish will not mix well.

Yeah. I was shocked because I did plenty research and everything said peaceful and easy.

I'd worry about a repeat with the next one, consider 2 days of a partial blackout ?

I was thinking about the same thing. There were two in the same tank, one was swimming around and looked good, the other was just laying in the corner. I think I may have gotten the not so active one.

remove the gramma before you try another "golden wrasse"

(Who said a Royal Gramma is peaceful?!)

Where could I put the gramma. I have a small breeder box, should I catch him and put him in there for a bit. Just so the wrasse can get use to the tank.

you can try all the tricks you want but a Gramma and that wrasse will never get along. Personally, I wouldn't attempt it again. JMO.
