New fish!

In their natural cycle they drop off, but the irritation of the copper causing excess slime will force them off.

Yeah I don't know about the whole copper deal, but thanks for the info? The rock beauty will be fine, many people have kept them long term without any problems.

Yes they have, I've been keeping them since the mid 80's.

Being a government employee I tend to move every so many years and pass on my livestock (and often the tank) instead of trying to move them. My first 2.5'' Rock Beauty matured and lived in my tank for 7yrs. After it was passed on, it did quite well up to 2003, where it may still be fine but I lost track of the person I gave her to; my last Navarchus angel was purchased in 1995 and is alive and kicking in a school aquarium for head start children.

Most of my larger fish have exceeded 12yrs in my tanks or with those I gave them to.

That sounds good and promising. You mention your first rock beauty and last majestic, did you have others that did not do so well? What did you feed your fish, tank size, mates, filtration etc? I know all these play an important part in every fish's life.

They died overnight due to Ammonia Poisoning or chemical poisoning. There were no signs of desease on the fish. I have been running Alot of Carbon on the 40b to rid it of any medication or water treatment stuff and will do a 50% water change tonight and have it at 1.018 for the new fish that will be in tomorrow and then will gradually lower it.

Over more than 20yrs I've had numerous angles in every kind of system from FOWLR to Reef to Marine Planted and Macro Tanks. When I first got started in the hobby, I had little understanding of compatibility or even how to choose a healthy fish so mortality rates were high. But with a little education, experience and the experience of others, I've been fortunate that I seldom lose a fish and many live beyond the expectant life span.

Sorry to hear that heath. So was it a chemical overdose or lack of filtration and an ammonia spike? How are you new arrivals doing today?

Ed, I've always heard fish like queen angels live for 20 years. Think it would be cool to keep one that long. When I buy a house and setup a tank, I definitely will see how long fish live for hopefully.

I am having to lean towards it being a chemical poisoning due to to many different chemicals in at a time. I guess the carbon didnt take out all of the old chemicals in the tank before I did Copper. Fish were fine till Copper went in and I didnt overdose on it as I went by the back of the bottle.

Well I just went home for lunch to check on the new fish and well lest to say they all were devoring NLS anit-parasite pellets and Flake food. There are no signs of stress or desease on them. They are also swimming all over the place with the lights on as well.

I do have some pics of them if you would like to see. The Atlantic Blue Tang is the largest fish in the tank and is in the transition phase. The Raccoon BF is a juvi. Cream angel is well a beautiful Cream Angel.

I will post them in here for you as I dont want to start another thread about them. They will be much happier here pretty soon when I pick up the other tank which is the same as your 210 except 4" shorter from side to side.

Hope you enjoy them.....My wife just told me the Vlamingi is scared of the Atlantic Blue Tang and the Vlamingi is chasing the Raccoon BF to make sure he is more dominent than it.

Love the tang! My brother has a juvi one that is about 1.5" and filled with personality! How big is that raccoon bf? It looks different from ones I've seen, more white on it? Wonder if it is still getting adult colors (if they go through changes?). Nice fish none the less!

Some of my larger fish have lived (or still living) near the 20yr mark; the fish I referred to exceeding life spans have been some smaller gobies and seahorses. A pair of breeding Kuda's were adult sized when purchased as a pair and lived 7 & 9yrs in a planted system. One of my favorite fish, the High Fin or Barber Pole Goby hung out in a SPS grow out system for nearly a decade. When I transferred him to another tank he passed within a day(?)

DPS: Well the company that was holding my Black Velvet Angel accidentally sent out the fish today when they had a new person to the shipping so I guess I get to add another fish to the DT.....:(

The bigger tank cant come soon enough.
