New Frag Tanks off Basement Sump

Are you going to stay with the Nanotuners PAR38's or try the RapidLED PAR38's? The Nanotuners only come with 40 degree optics now and you mention that your others are 80 degree optics, plus the RapidLED PAR38's now can be ordered with different mix of colors (RB, B, CW, WW) and 60 or 80 degree optics - plus I am being selfish and want to see what someone local thinks of them compared to the standard RB/ CW mix!

See if Dave will bring his par meter next time he comes over- I would be surprised if two of the Par38's (especially w/ 80˚ optics) couldn't spread across a 20L just fine.

Since I am going to be one par38 short, I may try that rapid par38 7 led but they are out of stock for a few weeks. Probably, I will just order one more 80 degree evil par 38 and see how it goes. The evil par38's are working well. Corals are open and "happy", I won't know about growth for a few weeks.

I will let you know about the par numbers when Dave stops by to do his 20L install.

I called nanotuners and bought the last par38 20k in stock but they were out of 80 degree optics so I bought them from rapidled. They should be here next week.

Updates 3.22.11-
Received my fourth evil par38 (2x14k, 2x20k) and updated my egg-crate structure to give it height and stability. The lights are 4 inches off the water. All frags look healthy. I only burnt one coral. It was a good one...Rogue Milepora Removed the latz and saddle clowns from the 40g Frag tank and moved them to the 120g display tank. Basement tanks are fish free. I just need some more snails. I did buy Reefkoi's 120w G1 (20K) for the 40BR. When it arrives in early April. I will move two par38's (14k)over the mangrove and augment the Reefkoi with 2 evil par38 (20k).

I moved the maxi mini's out of the 20L and replaced them with the 18 red mangrove plants. The lights are 2 x 6500k zoo med sun 50/50.

Very nice, and very intricate setup! What is the coral in the last pic, far left lower shelf - neon toadstool (Tyree), or is that just from the lighting?

Yes, that is a neon green toadstool. I don't have lineage on it. The fragged it into a bunch of different pieces from my display tank. This is what it looked like before I fragged it.

Updates 3.28.11- Reefkoi's 120 W G1 LED should be shipping this week so I will get some pics up when it arrives.

Neon Green Toadstools seem the happiest under the par38's.

4.12.11 Update-
Received my Reefkoi 120W G1 LED light. I put it 10 inches above my frag tank and moved the par38's to the right side. I will keep an eye on burning the corals. I also received my inline TDS meter for my R/O unit. In 147ppm Out 2ppm (I will change it when it hits 5ppm). My frags have been growing nicely with the Par 38's the neon green toadstools are fully connected to their rocks and the meteor corals are encrusting.

Updates- 5.2.11
I have par numbers for the frag tank. I am happy with growth and the par numbers. The bad part is that it cost $700 to get to it. But I should never need to change any bulbs and it may reduce my power consumption.

My neighbor broke down her 28g so she gave me all of her rocks. They just came out of being in bleach for 7 days. They are now in vinegar for the next week.

5.16.11 UPDATE- I switched all of the PVC over to acrylic rods. It is much better with the current setup over the original design. No more PVC and black egg-crate. It has been completely replaced.
I also picked up an APEX with ORP, Temp, PH & ATO. I have automated the entire system. With the cameras and Apex, I can do a complete water change from my iphone/ipad which is super cool. Aquanotes works well.

6.6.11 UPDATE-
Frag tank has recovered completely from the bad black egg-crate. I am getting great growth on frags and coraline algae.

I altered my angle on the frag tank camera so I could see the water level of the sump and frag tank at the same time.

Mangrove continues to grow in and my elegant coral is full and open in there in super low current. I put a 2 cups of tank soil in there and now it is a pod haven.

ONLY ISSUE-RUSTING ON EVIL PAR 38's. I am getting some serious rusting on the par 38's. The silver rims are taking the worst hit. I sent an email to customer service. They should not rust that much in 3 months.
