New Gigantea Journal

Well, a Gigantea is new to my world although I have been into reefing for 5+ years.
Since I'm new to this, please help me understand the nem better.

Finally made up the courage to pick this guy up today. I have him in a 10G container with a Rock I'd like him to place on with a power head & heater.

Apologize for the poor quality pictures.

Nice... I thought you would get him...

I am going to follow and ask lots of questions as I want to add one to my tank one day.

Please do, I get an opportunity to learn. I take things for granted which eventually comes back & bites me. :bounce3:

It looks good so far and doesn't look to be bleached at all. Did you get it from a local reefer? Good luck

For an acclimating gig it looks REALLY good. Nice color and great tentacle extension. This isn't the same gig you posted about previously is it?

beautiful dgtron....nice pickup! :D
would love to see this bad boy when it gets into the DT ;)

Shaun one observation.... I posted an update this morning, my green gig went from 3.5" to about 8-9" overnight after apparently now becoming acclimated... Yours was already at least 5" or so over there, wondering if yours will get MUCH larger when it's ready.

Just an observation but keep an eye out, yours might get much larger and it will look even better. The color was AWESOME when I saw it. congrats!!

Thanks Tom, so far he is about 5-7"

I had to move the nem into my reef system (refugium now converted into Anemone - Clown fish hangout). He has just been there for an hour, mouth is slightly open, but not gasping.
I tried feeding the nem some scallops in QT, never ate it, he seemed to not like it at all.Neither did my fish like the scallops :hmm3:
Another thing is: Seems like the tentacles of the nem touched a heater or something, few tentacles (a very small section) were white & stressed.

Finally question, the base of the anemone is Green, is this a characteristic of a Gigantea?

Interesting... a green foot? Wonder if my green gig (which came from the same store and likely same collection point in the ocean) has a green foot that doesn't have much color yet???

That is a Gigantea without a doubt. They usualy have color foot

Looking good so far, keep him healthy!

Fortunately I don't have as much responsibility on the giga anymore....the clown was adopted by the nem.

My concern now is why would the anemone not eat the scallops? I have never had an anemone reject Food.

Wouldn't be so concerned about that, it's a new import, acclimating and getting used to life in your system. Has it deflated at all? How is the mouth? Overall is it rigid looking or does it look good?

You don't want to feed them right away if they can't handle it, let them use their energy for getting stronger and not digesting...

Give the nem time, it just came from halfway across the world.

+1
it's been through a lot at this point and just needs to settle in....
I typically won't target feed my new additions until I see them find their "spot". They need their energy to do that first and foremost IMO.

Anemones don't need to eat right away, in fact it can cause them extra stress. Let it settle in for a few days and keep an eye out for it deflating and mouth gap.

Finally the Giga & the clowns made the trip to my 300G display.

So far so good. I feel the nem is comfortable. Mouth is closed.
