New green sinularia questions

I got a green sinularia 3 or 4 days ago and I haven't really seen any polyp extension. It has been really bumped up but they didn't open. And it had been kind of laying down. Is it because it's new or is it not happy.
The tank is a 75 gal w/ 4-39w t5ho and a 250w halide. I have the sinularia pretty high up in medium-ish flow. There is a spaghetti finger near it that seems happy and opens up. I don't really want to stress it anymore by moving it, if it's still settling in.
 
i have a green nepthea which is basically the same coral and i don't believe it needs that much light...try lowering down a bit..med flow is good too....
 
I just picked up some green nepthea too. Mine didn't show polyp extention until the second day, started him out on the sandbed.

Quite possibly this.

Leathers can be temperamental. Move them and they sulk for weeks. Touch them and they sulk for anywhere from hours to days. As long as you don't see it deteriorating, you should be good.
 
Ok thanks. I have been leaving it alone and keeping an eye on it. It isn't laying down anymore but isn't fully inflated either. Looks like it's slowly getting happier. I put a 3/4 dose lugols solution in and also some phyto/goniopower in hoping to perk it up some more.
 
How do you tell sinularia from nepthea?
It's doing better. Still hasn't expanded like I think it should compared to my spaghetti ginger leather.
That brings me to my next problem. This thing has a stalk about 3" or so across and I'm guessing it's going to be pretty big when it fully inflates. Where I put it I'm pretty sure it isn't going to have room for that. I might have to move it 3-4". The flow should be about the same, a little more light. So should I move it now or wait till its happy where it is and has to be moved?
 
The guy at the lfs where I got it said it came from Walt smith. I was looking at his website and in the gallery. Anyway I believe my coral is neospongodes. It looks like the picture in the gallery. I also got a sarcophyton elegant from the same place if anybody has any tips on it.
 
I just picked up a fairly large green sinularia as well.

What is the general consensus on location (high in the tank or lower?) and flow for these guys?

**I've got a 93g cube (30"x30"x24" tall) with AI Hydra52 lighting.

The green is super vibrant, a beautiful coral!
 
They do not like too much light. To some extent they can adjust to higher light but then the polyps tend to open much less.

Examine them under a microscope.

Not really worth it unless you are seriously OCD about these things. Or a scientist studying them. Otherwise, it's a scientific name that has been hijacked into a common name. And when it comes to common names, use whatever makes you happy.
 
Thanks for the feedback. Mine is doing much better. Medium flow mid level in the tank.

Mine never opened very well. I wondered why until I noticed my Pygmy Cherub Angel nipping at it. I removed the fish and now it's all good.
