New Guinean Frogfish - Antennarius dorehensis - breeding updates

Still your achievements are extraordinary:)
You had a pair of Antennarius living together.
You had them spawning a fertile egg raft.
You obtained lots of larvae and seemingly they were taking rotifers (would be good to confirm this).
Too bad it ended like that.Perhaps the pair should be kept separated with an egg-crate fence till the female was ready,or at least during feeding,if they get along well.
The problem trying to form an antennarid mated pair is not only telling the sexes;determining if two fish belong to the same species sometimes is not easy, either.
So please keep trying and sharing it! :)

So sorry to hear of your loss... But as Luis said, I´ve done a lot so far and really should keep trying !

Although it's our "instinct" to feed them by ourselves, it may be good to figure out a feeding method that they do not associate with our presence. If it proves to be impractical, keeping the pair separated would be safer.

Anderson.

Thanks for all the support and encouragement. Definately not giving up. LFS donated a 4 compartment cubicle tank to the project today, which will really help for trying to set up breeding pairs :)

Matt, we're not expecting anything from Jim's setup at this point. We tried to favor water quality on that system, but looks like the larger container volume for the larvae made for low food density problems. We're leaving that system running so it will be ready for the next batch.

Well Mr. Ugly, I definitely will help out any way I can (was hoping to finally get you some of the SS Strain and other algae cultures this week or next...depends on the transportation situation).

Good luck!

Matt

Thanks, Matt.

Lots of us are excited about the project. Thanks to you and everyone that has been helping and offering support, including New Alameda Aquatics, Reef Nutrition, Jim/Bookfish, Frank Marini, Uberfugu, Reefcherie, Lefty, and others!

No major news right now, but I do have another dorehensis coming tomorrow from a fellow frogfish fan :)

It looks like mummifer complex tends towards promiscuous mating, so I'll try to keep several(hopefully males) together with the female.

Have several mummifers and a possible maculatus pair, so if things go well, I'll have to start additional threads here :)
