Hey guys, just got a BioCube 14 gallon tank. Been cruising through all the LFS and have had by far the best service from FishPros in cotati, and am inclined to get my liverock there since its $5 a lb if you get 20+. So $100, for what to me looks like good rock in comparison to what I've been seeing others getting for that price or more. I was just wondering first if anyone has any here they would part with for cheaper or has any recommendations for me as to where to go and why?

I got some rock if you're interested I took out of my 40B. It's not live anymore but it will work and come back again.

This is a personal experience but if I were to set up a tank today, I wouldn't use live rocks because eventhough the rocks come with the good stuff growing on them but they also come with all the bad pests. I would use all dried rocks and be very careful about what I am adding to the tank.

That's interesting since its contrary to what I've heard. Should I avoid lives and also? If I was to go liverock, is there a cuc you would recommend right away?

I'm going to go with LR from my LFS as they will assist me in the whole process from aquascaping through the cycle etc.

As it was said before, it's much better to use dry rock so you don't get the pests the previous owner had. I once bought off Craigslist and ended up with some Majano and aiptasia as well as some cool looking sponges.... I think there was also a gorilla crab.

I'm partial to the "Real Reef" Brand of artificial rock.
No pests and it is purple to start .
Here's a pic with the real reef in a Elos nano

Absolutely Dry live rock or prefab live rock. It will look better than just stacking random live rock. Think of it this way. Do you buy Real Ocean water and put it in your tank. Hell NO! you don't know what's in it. Same with Live Rock. You could get some really nasty stuff that you will fight forever.

Dare I say Aptasia! Yep that's right i might be tearing my rock apart soon after blowing $300 on Berghia and still have the healthiest aptasia you'd ever scene.

In case you missed it in my other thread here's another pic of a tank I just set up with "Real Reef" rock. It looks really nice better than "Marco" rock or dry base rock.

Where would you guys suggest purchasing reel reef rock from? Anywhere in sonoma county have it, or a reputable source online someone could suggest?

I'm not really a big fan of the look of "real reef" rock or the seller for that matter but they sell it at Caesar's over on Piner road.
