New guys - baby Regal and Venustus

I had hinted to a few people that I might be getting these fish and I am happy to report that they came in yesterday morning at 9:00 a.m. Without issue.

This was my first shipment from NyAquatic and I couldn't be happier.

These guys are tiny, both measuring at right about 1". I have to say that caring for such a tiny animal is pretty intimidating. Neither fish has eaten much yet, but they both showed some interest in the Hikari brine that I offered yesterday. I also fed some PE Cyclopeeze, PE mysis and a bit of the purple Sea Veggies as it seemed the Venustus was more interested in picking at the film algae in my QT.

I noticed what I believe to be a fluke on the Regal and was considering doing a freshwater dip, which is what I would normally do, however the small size makes me a bit nervous.

They will receive a round of Prazi as soon as they start eating, but I don't expect that to happen right away, so I'm not sure what to do until then.

The Venustus is making me a little nervous as well because it spends a fair amount of its time upside down. It has no problem righting itself, I think it just prefers to swim that way.

I'm having issues posting pics with my iPhone, but I'll get some up tonight when I get on my computer.

Personally, I would just focus on getting them eating and then start the Prazi. F/w dips on newly acquired fish make me a bit nervous too. My baby Blue angel ate some nutramar ova before anything else. I assume they are both in QT?

Maybe also try to get some roe, like Nutramar Ova? Also, NLS makes a really tiny pellet. Good luck.

Absolutely in Quarantine. I will pick up some of the Nutramar Iva on the way home.

Meant to ask, how long was it before your blue angel started eating?

That isn't uncommon at all for Venustus angels. Seem to do it more often at first when getting settled in --- Mine did it a lot the first couple of months that I had it, but once it got used to the surroundings it only did it once in a while. I wouldn't be concerned at all about this behavior.

He didn't eat for a few days (I tried brine/mysis first). But once I fed him ova, he ate that straight away and then started eating everything else.

Also, try nori.

I would avoid dry foods as they may lead to bouancy issues in baby fish....
go with spir/omega brine and pe Mysis...mince the Mysis... flake up some Mysis between your fingers and let it blow around the tank...
keep the lights off a few days and few 7-10 min a day...ove/baby brine works too...

good luck!

venustus swim oddly due to their feeding nature and picking on rocks...they are beautiful to watch when out...

did you get the 1 inch venustus from Michael? I hope so...was very tempted by her...a beauty and the smallest I have seen in a long time...

Great to hear they came in healthy! I have a yellow belly regal, blue lined angel and a scribbled being delivered tomorrow morning from NYAquatics. Will post how they look tomorrow

Just got home and need to spend some time with the kiddos, gonna be a few hours for the pics.

I'll see if I can get a video too if time permits.

OK, so here are a couple pics. I'll try to get some better ones of the Venustus later tonight, I caught a small break thanks to Mickey.

The regal is from Bali, or at least that's what the description said.

It is the 1" Venustus, and his ruler skills are quite accurate, this thing is tiny.

The Regal is shy, but then inquisitive. It hides in the PVC when I first come to the tank, but then comes out to check me out.

The Venustus pretty much couldn't care what's going on the whole time. I think tonight is the first time I have seen the fish look directly at me, which is actually a bit of a relief.

I picked up some Nutramar Ova and some Reef Nutrition arctic pods and i'm going to try feeding both later. I'll be sure to report.
