I wanted to call this the good, bad and ugly. Same nem, extruded gut pic in morning after 1st night I had him. Second pic is it tonight. I dug a hole and set him in here; clown keeps trying to move him. Would not eat shrimp. Lets hope tomorrow that I do not wake to an extruded gut nem or dead one

Hate to say it, but I wouldn't get your hopes up just yet.

I had one that acted similar, until it died.

And finally --- all of this was over the course of 2 days.

Darn, that is sad. Yours' looks like the same color morph that I have. I am glad you documented what happened. It's amazing that they can look so bad and then perk up again. Don't have any choice but to see this through. Hope it ends well.

+ 1 to what Todd said. Had the same thing happen to me... and Todd coached me through it also. He went up and down for 2 weeks before dying.

Last night with clown and this morning day 2. I am running an oversized uv sterilizer 39 watt on the tank if this makes any difference.

if you could, remove the clown for now to let the nem time to settle, the last thing it wants is to deal with the clown while struggling to live .........

Do you have a sump?

You might be able to make a "box" out of some egg create and zip ties, to keep it out -- I have had to do that before.

If I have to do this again, is it better to start out with a small one? What size has the best chance of survival?

It is HIGHLY recommended to remove any clown when introducing a new carpet. Since they are so sensitive you don't want a clown messing around with them. It is imparative for the survival of your anem. If you can atleast make an egg crate cage around your anem. so the clown can't reach it, it will help.
