In my quest to keep water in containers and off my floor when making RODI water i stumbled onto something that seems to work really well from Home Depot. Its a timer controlled water valve. I found it in the Lawn& Garden department by the sprinklers. It is basically an egg timer that controls a water valve. You can set it for up to 2 hrs on the timer or turn it on manually for as long as you want. My RODI makes 75 gal in 8 hrs so setting it to 2 hrs will fill a 32 gal brute container and not over fill it(NO WATER ON FLOOR) The unit costs $14.95.
Also a note the unit is handling my somewhat high tap water pressure with no problems (60 psi) Here is a pic

That is very good pressure in my opinion, comparing it to mine that reads barely 30psi on my RO system?

I've forgotten to turn off the filter at night a couple times and ended up with a pond on the floor. First time it happened i just added some soap to it and mopped up LOL

I have one of those and they seem to wear out over time. I am on my third one, but they have saved me many times!!

I have absurd water pressure (100+ PSI) so that may be why they die on me after several months.

I've used the volumetric "timers" that you set for a certain number of gallons. Unfortunately they are not calibrated for very small amounts so you have to experiment to find the small settings. It prevented a lot of spills and I used it for years, but not as much after selling the 520 and 250 gallon tanks. For refilling a mixing tank, the shut offs for a horse trough or the plastic inner workings of a toilet tank make a lot of sense.

They also have for 50.00 one that is electronic with a moisture sensor, but i thought for short term this would work fine. I like automation but it can and will fail one way or the other. Case and point my Tunze ATO, it works great for about a year and then the sensor gets a little too much calcium on it and it fails. The good thing is it fails by not adding water so no floods.

how about putting in a float valve to shut of the flow once the container is full?

That wouldn't stop the waste water

yes it does stop the waste water after the output stops flowing so does the waste water. I bought a horse trough top off valve from tractor supply for 15 bucks and it works great. I just clamp it down to the side of my bucket and when the buckets full water stops running

with my R.O. the only way to stop the waste water is to stop the input.

You should still be able to get a shutoff valve that will stop the input once the output stops. Most places that sell RO/DIs bundle them with their units, but also sell them separately. Can't hurt to have some extra protection upstream.
