Fiji Yellow Leather, this one I have questions about, when I bought it, it's polyps were dark like they are in the pic. Once I got home, I did some research and couldn't find any pics of dark polyp leathers like this. Is it sick? Is it even a Fiji Yellow?

hairy mushroom? It was tiny when I bought it, and unnamed, but now it's about as wide as a golf ball.

I'm not much of an expert on softies, but the leather looks more like a toadstool to me.

Sorry to hear about your blenny :( everything's looking pretty great otherwise!

Well the term "toadstool" is more of a nomenclature. It refers to most young leathers that resemble a toadstool, and once it matures it gets wavy and takes on the traditional appearance.

Unless I've completely overlooked an entire species of corals lol.

But I believe the one I have is Elegans... not too sure as of now

Super lucky to find a coral ?breeder? A block away from my house. Dude has a tank dedicated to bounce mushrooms... he's the real deal.

Those are amazing! If they grow like crazy I'll buy a couple polyps!

The picture doesn't do it any justice.

These things are unreal, there are actually 4 polyps, but the other two are on the backside of this frag in the shot.

Once there is about 10 polyps I will definitely send you a couple, you've been a great help, and I wouldn't flinch at returning the favor.

Tank looks great so far congrats on everything! Also beginning to start a tank on a budget, the best way to go!

Loved this thread! I grew up maintaining a freshwater tropical tank and have always wanted a saltwater one. Now I am ready to dive in but patience is not a virtue I possess so it's nice reading and following along your process and seeing how slow and steady is really i portant and saves you time (and money!) in the future.

About how much would you say you spent on each "rounds" of corals you purchased? They are stunning.

Thanks! The whole reason I started this thread was to not only catalog my experiences, but also help people with those hard to figure out topics.

Thanks! My very first round of corals from vivid aquariums was my most expensive run. It was about $160 and I got 5 or 6 frags.

Since then, I have taken advantage of my local club, and lfs. I will only get 1 new coral at a time. Usually set myself a limit of whatever I can get for $50-$60, usually they hook it up.

Zoas are kind of a loaded question, certain color morphs cost like $1pp, and others $35pp.

With these utter chaos, the guy sells them for $35pp, but I told him I had $75, so whatever that buys me. And I walked away with a 5 polyp frag. Just spotted a baby on the side of the frag.

How's the tank going? You've been pretty quiet.

Life has been super busy, kid is turning 1 in less than a month, alongside wife's bday. So it's been crazy daisy.

I will do a mega update this weekend, with updated pics to show some impressive growth, as well as new additions.

Thanks for following!!
