New Hydor pump

The stopping and starting is really bad with just about any pump over 400 gph. Just think of wavemakers as a on and off timer. Then think if you where to start and stop your car 50 times a day?????

That's why I'm happy I also got the Seio controller!

I just got mine and have 2 koralia 3's on a seio controller. Very happy with them. One of them has been a little finicky coming back on from a cold start, so I'm glad I have the controller to cycle them up and down. From a cold start they are noisy when they first spin up, so for wave making, I would definitely recommend the seio hydor combination.

They're pretty quiet too, but I can hear the difference as they switch from low to high on the seio. pretty much a typical hum.

They do a much better job at keeping stuff "in suspension" in my tank than my old powerheads. My hair algae and cyano issues have significantly lessened in under than a week!

So the manufacturer's claim that the controller will not work with any other type of pump is incorrect? Just wondering. I just picked up 3 Koralias and would love to have two of them controllable.

They seem to be fine cycling up and down in my tank. Remember that they are synchronized, so the two outputs are effectively the same. Some people have an issue with that.

When I attached my Koralia 3 to my Seio controller, it worked fine at 100%, but rattled then changed direction at 50%. I guess I'll try it again tonight.

I've never seen that happen. I am running 2 powerheads though.

k1 would give you 13x turnover per hour or 400gph

k2 would give you 20x turnover per hour or 600gph

and anyone of these would be good, if you like a low/med flow get the k1 or if you prefer a med/high get the k2, depends on which sps you have.

So question is, is the price point for a Tunze nanostream still ok? These koralias are huge. I've never seen a nanostream in action. And I want to know, in my 55 gal, if at $62 is a nanostream is better or equal in performance, reliability, size.

I bought a #4 at local reef store for $49.95 yesterday evening. I set it up in my 125 gallon and it works great. Quiet!!! Looks good, too.

I will buy another this weekend.

For me, it is full speed ahead on these pumps!

Anyone keep them constantly on? Any performance issues?

I was thinking of getting 2 of the #4's for my 72g......I have a feeling my SPS are going to love it!

Wonder what is up.

From one of the other threads looks like problem with the housing not sealing properly and causing a risk of shock. I remember one of those threads was started by someone who got zapped by theirs. Not sure if that is the whole reason for the recall though.

I just ordered a 1 and 2, but the 2 is backordered for another week or so. Guess it won't be one of the affected lots.

I've had mine for about a month, constantly on, and they're as silent as ever. The magnet's grip also seems to get stronger the longer you leave it in place. I love my Koralias so far.

Anyone keep them constantly on? Any performance issues?

Is everyone enjoying their hydors?

I'm still waiting on my replacements... Looking at the Drs. website, it looks like they're backordered again until 3/19. I'm hoping mine isn't one of those, but the fact that it hasn't arrived yet and I've received no shipping confirmation makes me think I'll be waiting another week and a half for my new K3s to get here. I've had it with the noise.

I got a K4 on Tuesday. Thing is great. A little bit larger than I anticipated but with how my tank is set up it works out.

I'm considering a second K4 but will wait a few months and see how this one works out for me.

OK, I have a 150 gallon reef. Currently have SIX MaxiJet 1200s with Hydor flows on them. I REALLY want to get some (if not all of these) out of my tank.

Do you guys think two of the K4s would be enough for my tank? And where would be the optimal placement for them? My tank is a 6' long rectangular tank.

Thanks!

Depends on what your keeping really. I've got a 3ft sps tank that I'll probably put another 4 on.

If I had a tank as large as yours I'd consider tunze or vortech

I just ordered 2 #4s for my 115 from 123fish.net (thanks for the tip). I found the price with shipping to be about the same as DrF&S with the coupon and the sale price. Plus they seem to have them in stock. I am in no hurry if not. Plus I ordered 2 mj mod kits from MJmods.com. Not sure how I will implement all this yet but I have time.

Plus I read that thread attacking DrF&S on the change in pricing. I think the complaining was unnecessary. F&S were not the only ones who raised their prices. If you don't like it, shop somewhere else. Sorry I went off topic.

Thanks for this thread guys I find it very interesting.
