New Hydor pump

I'm not disagreeing with anyone. My Tunze 6080 has taken a dive, and I'd rather find a new alternative than spend $50 to $60 to repair it. Just loking for that alternative!

I think it is the way it is made. I finally got it so they aren't piling up my substrate all over and kinda like it now. It is kinda like my whole 75 is on a low boil. The entire surface is boiling a little like a choppy sea. Tank looks cleaner and everything has perked up a little.

I like to see the fish get nailed by the unpredictable current, fishercize :) .

If the water going in the sump didn't drive me crazy or the er skimmer output falling down my tank would be silent. I am tired of this noise and return and skimmer pump vibrations. May have to drill my floor and put sump in small storage room in the garage. Tank is in living room next to wall beside me and tv.

I don't know how you guys are getting an uneven flow pattern from the outlet of these pumps. Unless the prop/impeller is rotating at different speeds (rpms) throughout one turn cycle, it is almost impossible to get variable flow patterns since it essentially spins so fast that the thing creates flow as if you have a circumferential cone pushing water... The only time where it seems like that to me is when I have all the water flow sources in my tank on and there are opposing currents in the tank that affect the flow from the pumps.

Maybe I'll have to take a closer look.

Weird. :)

Peace,
John H.

Anyone else have one they can do a check on flow distribution? I would be most interested in having other pumps off in the tank, so you are getting just the flow from the hydor.

the flow in my tank rocks compared to my seios. I have 2 Hydor 3's that replaced 2 Seio 820's. the flow from the hydor is amazing (why is everyone so quick to mod everything), SPS are really responding to it. I guess everyone has their own opinions though.

I just put 2 3's in my 90 gal. I really didn't anylize the flow but the tank is covered with flow. Everything looks happy to me. Maybe we just get too picky with something new.
Mine replaced 4 maxi 1200's and tank temp is down 3 degrees and less aiming powerheads at the correct spot.

Mostly softies right now. Alot of things came on myTBS rock and seems to doing well. Also have 4 Gorgonians and they are really happy since the change of powerheads.
Hope to be adding more when the new tank things are done.
Also have some mushrooms that came from another tank.

Well I just got my two model 3's for my bowfront. I am impressed! My only issue is both pumps flow differently. One is a more direct frontal dispersed flow, and the otherone throws out a "V" type flow not straight forward and dispersed!!!

Also my pumps have white impellers in them and not the red ones. They do move allot of water. However my seio's pushed a more tighter flow pattern vs these. Don't get me wrong I love the look and the overall performance! I just wish it was a more controled flow and not all over? Is there possibly something wrong with the one that is throwing out a "V" shapped pattern"

Thanks

No, I am not seeing 3 zone flow. But I have 2 on my 55, so maybe my tank is not wide enough to show the dispersion everyone is describing. I have them on opposite sides of the tank pointing tward the middle. I am seeing wave like currents in the tank. Although I am comparing these to Seio's and not Tunze (not fair for a pump that cost 1/2 as much).

I've got two of the model 1 on the top of my 60 gallon hex and one 3 at the bottom. They all have a 'spread out' type of flow, but it is very nice and wave like. I noticed my mushrooms swaying back and forth and looking very happy. That model 3 does move a decent amount of water. The 4 would have been too much for my tank.

I got only one and same problem here. The flow is a "V" type.

BTW the price has increased by $10. Can't wait to get my nanostream  ..

I would have probabley got the nanostream, but I have no patience. I am glad I got the Hydor though, great pump for me.

Oppurtunistic SOB's, way to screw the consumer....

Capitalism! You gotta love it. If it weren't for the profit motive, we wouldn't have any of this stuff. The good news is the price on all of these style pumps will continue to come down while the quality and quanity of choices for the consumer goes up -- b/c there is finally a competitive market on these. How long do you think it will be before we see a "sale" on Tunze's? The bad news is I didn't see this coming and order 50 at the lower price. I could be making a killing on Ebay right now!

As a lawyer... is 400 odd bucks really worth your time to pack and ship these things off... (50 units would only give you 500 bucks profit at super ideal conditions, but you wouldn't be selling them under super ideal conditions). Don't forget ebay takes off about 3% for each purchase and then paypal takes off another 3% for credit card payments). Maybe if you had bought like 1000, then it might be worth your time. :)

John H.
