Hey Folks,

Wanted to show everyone some pics of a jawfish I picked up this weekend at the LFS. I've done some pretty extensive research and have not found any reference to a jawfish with a red head and a green body (his dorsal fin is rather blue as well). Here are some pics. I will post some better ones soon.

He's been in the tank for three days and is doing well. Acting very much like a jawfish, digging tunnels and such. Also feeding well.

Please let me know if you've seen this kind of jawfish anywhere else!

Jason

(Note - the one showing the bright green body is with the flash on. The redder pics are w/o flash)

It is not a dusky, and I don't believe it has been given a species name yet.

(I think I saw it in a book that had hawkfish, jawfish, and hamlets, and this book listed it as Opistognathus sp.)

That's the Scott Michael book and he calls it the variegated jawfish (no species name yet). There are pics of blue, green, and yellow color morphs in the book. Beautiful fish!
