New Kellogi's---feeding question

the coronet that is pointing back. Also the yellow color. I think Kellogi's are usually black, and adults are smaller than like say a kuda or reidi. HTH

Actually, color has nothing to do with it, since seahorses can all change color; and true kelloggi get much larger than the typically accepted kuda, and usually larger than reidi as well.
It is the shape of the coronet, and the fact that it has a rounded backward pointing tip. H. kelloggi have more tail rings, a higher coronet, and more prominent cheek and eye spines. Also, H. kelloggi have a tendency to have thin vertical lines running up and down their body made up of tiny spots; rather than the randomly placed large spots usually found on kuda.
That all being said, your seahorse does have a rather high coronet for kuda, and it is possible that it is a kuda/kelloggi hybrid; but IMO not a true kelloggi.

thanks for the response Ann, other than size and the possible parasite problem, are there any other pressing reasons for why i would need to know which sp it is? any benefits to it being a hybrid?

Well, kelloggi are a deep water species and possibly need cooler temps (upper 60's) and less light. Other than that, no big important differences.
You'll have to de-worm the horse regardless if it is kuda or kelloggi, because there aren't true CB kuda in the states right now either; they are also being net-pen raised. So use the parasite meds that pledo and I mentioned regardless.
