New Life Spectrum coral pellet foods

I use Spectrum pellets (for fishes) right now.

It sounds as though these coral foods are extremely similar to the fish pellets.
I'll probably get some for comparison's sake. In the meantime, a morter and pestel make great tools for grinding up Spectrum fish pellets ;)

For the price I thought it was worth trying out and I'll continue to use it in addition to my other foods. FM Ultra LPS seems to be a better choice if you're looking for the best coral pellet food. Significantly higher protein and softer texture. I feed all of my corals every day though so it's a matter of budget and convenience as well.

Mike I have been trying out the Micro and Macro feeds as well.

It is too soon for me to give an honest critique of it.

What I have noticed so far:
Both foods upon immeditely opening the containter you notice the smell garlic and krill.

Non-photosynthetic LPS corals do not have the same reaction to this food as the Fauna Marin food. When the Fauna Marin food is fed the corals' polyps are extremely expanded/swollen. This could also be because the macro is a hard pellet and the Fauna Marin is a soft pellet making the coral digest the Fauna pellet quicker/easier.

For the micro-feeder, gorgonians accepted it when they were spot fed. Mixed 1/2 a cup of aquarium water to 1/8 of a teaspoon of micro-feeder. This food did look close to the consistency of MinF and a little redder in color. This food most likely be used for additional supplementation to what we are currently using.

For my honest opinion: I can see the foods selling in high volume due to the price and availability. Spectrum does make quality foods, it trusted brand, and are pretty much available at every LFS. This is Spectrum's advantage. What I find is more interesting is that Spectrum made this type of food and I wonder if more aquarium food makers will follow suit.

Quick update:
Fed my rhizos the macro food yesterday and I must say it is REALLY good for them. They just look really vibrant afterwards I think they get a lot of energy from this stuff. I can see this also being a great choice for anemones and anything with a big mouth.

On the other hand, my sun corals and balanos do not like the food. They will actually refuse it and just let it slip away from their tentacles. It is too big and I think most importantly the texture is too hard. They prefer Fauna Marin LPS food for sure. The dendros will eat either one, but I've gotten some incredible growth from them with the Fauna Marin LPS food. I will have to take pics of the tissue growth next week. I haven't used the Spectrum food enough with them to say what the results are.

Sorry ,this is not meant or directed towards anyone, I just really find it odd that peas, carrots ect. are in coral food !
:fish2:

Haha, it does seem odd at first but no more odd than feeding garlic to corals and fishes... or dare I say cow's milk to adult humans?

(also not directed towards anyone I'm a milk drinker myself)

Ahh , OK .
I new I had heard that term before ,used to run a charter fishing boat and had heard that term around the fish cleaning station from the deck hands.
.....it's not on my menu though .:lmao:

Not in your regular grocery store but it can be found in Japanese or Asian specialty food stores. You will be amazed what you can find there.

I go to the japanese market by here all the time but never see it. I don't feel comfortable asking them for it either hehe.
