New lighting thread

I figured since the search function isn't working, I would like to know which lights you are running, size of tank, length of photoperiod and whether you are considering changing them in the near future. I'll go first...

My lights: 1x400 Radium 20k w/vho super actinics on a large SLS Lumenmax reflector.
Tank size: 100g
Photoperiod: 8hrs
Consider changing? Over my dead body!:lol2:

Tank size: 40 breeder

Photoperiod: 9 hours; 6 hours with all lamps on

Potential changes: less blue. I know most wouldn't move in this direction, but I'm considering primarily daylight lamps, with possibly even a 3000K thrown in. I'm shooting for something reasonably close to sunlight at a couple of meters deep in terms of color. I'm mainly pushing growth and attempting to maximize potential PAR. I realize there isn't a giant difference between the PAR of the Blue + lamps compared to daylight ones, but I intend to maximize what little there is. Not to mention the GE daylights, etc. are cheaper.

Current lighting: 2x 150w phoenix + 4x T5HO suppliment (UVL super actinic, Giesemann pure actinic, KZ fiji purple, Aqua Science 22,000K)

tank size: 30g

photo period: 6 hours with all lamps 8 hours with T5 only

consider changing?...maybe to LEDs once they become cheaper and more developed. But before that change the phoenix out for ushio 10ks

5ftx5ftx30in SPS tank:

4 400 watt Ushio 14K on HQI ballasts
4 110 watt UVL super actinic fluorescent

Metal halides on 8 hours
VHO on 9 hours

During summer time I run 6 hours on the metal halide and 7 hours on the VHO to save money as our rates increase significantly. I am not planning on changing bulbs on this tank as I really like the Ushio 14Ks. The one change I may make is to switch to LED's when they become reliable/affordable.

Damn Nook, if I ran that much power in CA, I bet my electricity bill would be around $600-$800 easily.

250W Sunpod w/ 14k Phoenix
Tank: 24 (more like a 20)
Photoperiod: 9 Hours

Would love to put some T5, but the tank is way less than 24" and it just wouldn't look right to me. Aside from that, this fixture owns.

Well, that is just one tank:D The other tank is 96x30x30 and uses the following:

Four 250 watt Ushio 14K bulbs and four 110 watt VHO super actinics. Also have a 400 watt Iwasaki over the fuge and a 12,600 BTU split system AC unit that runs 24/7.....I need solar panels:lol:

2x250w phoenix hqi in lumenmax elite pendants, 1x250w phoenix SE in lumenmax elite
2x160w 454 vho's
tank size is 215
8x54w tek light over the 60g frag tank
aquascience blue(11000k)
fiji purple
ati blue +
geisemann midday

fiji purple
aquascience blue(11000K)

halides on for 6-8hrs/day(middle halide is on for 6, others for 8)
vhos on for 10hrs/day
t5s on for 9hrs/day

thought about switching to t5s over the 215, but the halides are fine for now

I hope you dont reside in CA, cuz your electric bill would be through the roof! :lol2::lol2::lol2:

On my 12g sps dominated nano: 1 x 72w Aquailluminations LED module, whites 20%, blues 40%, 8 hours/day.

On my 14g frag nano: DIY LED array with 6 cool whites and 5 royal blues, whites ~50%, blues ~75%, 8 hrs/ day

On my future 135g sps dom.: 4 x 72w Aquailluminations LED module, whites probably around 60%, blues probably ~90 to 100%. I've done some qualitative experiments setting 2 modules up on half the tank, and with my ocular PAR meter, it looks more than adequate. When I set the 135 up, I'll probably use my DIY array over the frag portion of my fuge.

On my 40 breeder-

2 X 150w 14K Phoenix HQIs
4 X 39w T5s- 3 ATI Blue Plus bulbs and 1 Fiji Purple
9 white moonlights
9 blue moonlights

8HRs of T5 lighting
6HRs of Metal Halide

7am - Blue moonlights on
8am- White moonlights on
11am- T5s on
Noon- Metal Halides on, all moonlights off.
6pm- Metal Halides off, all moonlights on.
7pm- T5s off.
9pm- White moonlights off.
Midnight- Blue moonlights off.

I'm very happy with this set up, although I have a couple ATI AquaBlue Specials that I might substitute one for one of the Blue +s to see how that looks.

Why 8 hours Sang? 6 hours of halide is plenty ;)

I run my 1000 watts of Radiums for only 5 hours a day :D

90 gal
6x54 w t-5
gman blue +
uvl 75/25
gman actinic +
uvl white actinic
gman actinic +
gman blue +
with 2 x 39 w gman actinic + and blue +
10 1/2 hours a day
still considering halides but would only use radiums whatever wattage !
