I have just introduced a small zebra dwarf lion fish into my 55G tank. The guy in the store said he was eating dead fish already. I have tried feeding him a small frozen fish (defrosted). I peirced it with a chop stick and waved it but he shows no interest. i also dropped a small fish in and let it float around, again he shows interest. I put some frozen brine shrimp in, he got excited but didnt eat...

is there any tricks i should try?????

lions can go for a while between meals, they have very slow metabolisms. I would wait a few days and try again. If he still does not respond try feeding live glass shrimp. I have yet to see a healthy carnivore turn these down. This will ususally trigger a regular feeding response. What kind of frozen fish are you offering?

is the chopstick the correct thing to use.......or is looking at me and thinking whats this idiot doing????hahaha

dont know what the fish are. they are from the aquarium about 1.5 inches.......

I would use something thinner than a chopstick, that is just me though. try it again and if it works it works. I personally just drop the food in and the lion takes it.

my new lionfish, i just got...didn't eat the first time I feed him frozen mysis...he got excited like yours...Then the second time he came out and started eatting it up. Takes them a while to get used to I think JMO tho, I'm no expert

thanks very much for your advice..

i switched the power heads off and dropped it next to him......he ignored me

but i will keep trying thanks

if he does eat how often do u feed them????

get a small live ghost shrimp with a pair of tongs and feed him this is a corner for a week or two. he will learn quite quickly to relise the tongs mean food and he will wait at that conrer for food this is when you know he will eat anything you offer with tongs.

Mine does not eat every day. There are some days where he will and then there are days where he shows no interest. When he wants to eat he lets me know.

i have now had him for a week and he still shows zero interest in food.......i have tried dangling it near him dropping small fish and prawns but he doesnt care.....

do they take time to settle in maybe???

I do have a dottyback, which i know may become a meal but he hasnt even looked at it, but the lionfish looks healthy and occasionaly moves around......

i tied a small fish to fishing line and dangled it, but it still didnt work....

I agree glass or ghost shrimp is the way to go. He will eat them for sure. I will also bet a 20 on this. Mine is a huge pig, eats all the time. I feed mainly krill. Good luck

live srhimp drop it in, get a few meals into him so he wont starve before we handle the getting him onto frozen food
