New Lta

Got this lta a week ago. It is slightly bleached (looks worse in this pic) but it is slowly getting more tan and getting a green oral disk. The clowns are not interested in it yet, not the natural host but hope they might take to it.

Well the nem was not down deep in the sand and its foot was not attached to anything, so I took a yogurt container, cut out the bottom, sliced it so it was about 3" wide all around. I pushed the plastic ring into the sand bed till it sit snug on the bottom and used a turkey baster to take the sand out of the container so bare glass was showing. I then set the nem in it and turned off the pump. Within a half an hour the Lta was secured to the bottom glass of the tank. I then filled sand around it and it seems quite content for now. Heres another pic.

That is a very cool pic. Your tank looks beautiful. What will you do when the foot out grows the yogurt container?

Ha, I figured someone would ask that! Well I have been thinking I should slip the plastic ring off when the nem shrinks down (has done that a couple of times). I just hope that the foot is only attached to the tank bottom and not on the plastic anywhere. I think there is room right now and it is not critical yet, but I suppose better now than when it gets to tight. Will post my success (or failure) when I try it.

I was wondering the same thing. ^^^

You could always take some scissors and cut it if you have access. Might be a hard angle to cut from.

Anyways, looks great. LTA's can be more difficult when it comes to attachment. Assuming that you have more then adequate conditions, you got the hardest part out of way (acclimation). Feed it small morsels of meaty type foods and it should recover. Good luck.

Yup, cutting it might work too! It has stayed quite large the last few days so I will have to wait for the right time. Its funny, as I am typing this the clownfish are snuggling on top of the toadstool just a few inches above the lta. They love that thing, hope they try the nem.

I just pulled up the plastic ring that was around the lta and it seems like the nem is staying put for now. Here is a pic from the top down.
The clowns still prefer the toadstool :(

Just an update. I was sure the lta was bleached when I bought it, otherwise seemed healthy. I wanted to give it a better home than it had at the store, so far it has grown and has regained most of its colour. I hope it lives a long life as it is a beautiful creature.
