New Mag

I received a Magnifica wednesday that I had obtained from a dealer I have purchased from on multiple occasions. The Mag had been in his tank for almost two weeks with no sign of issue. I set up the QT for the nem before arrival and moved my clowns in there. Day 1 went well at first as it perked up and the mouth closed 30 mins after acclimation. The mouth has not gaped since initial acclimation. However, sometime late at night last night and the night before it deflates. I am not sure whether or not to start antibiotics since the mouth is still closed tightly and the hem inflates fully when the lights are on. Usually I prefer treatment as a last resort but I am not sure with these guys.

Some early morning pictures

Take out the clowns if you can. IME they do more harm than good. They usually beat up the anemone and can kill it. I've noticed that if they clowns are trying to "dive bomb" into the nem's mouth, it's indicative that the nem is sick.

Can you take a photo if the mag when it's fully inflated?

All that said, I would treat it. Mags seem to react quicker and stand up to Cipro better than gigantea. In other words, it probably wouldn't hurt to treat it. Just make sure you go through a full course (5-7 days of antibiotics followed by 3-5 observation).

+1, I agree with everything.

I never got the chance to get a picture when the lights are on. Checked the parameters on the QT tank and noticed the magnesium was off which threw off the pH. Got it corrected with a full water change and will medicate if still having issues in the morning.

Mouth completely closed this morning, no deflation save a couple of stringy tentacles but they are still full length. Still ready to treat but hoping to keep it a last resort.

What happened to this nem?
