New Magnet Based Powerhead Holder

This is a great new product from the Algae Free company. They are magnet holders that will fit a variety of pumps, and you can check them out at Marine Depot Link

They are MUCH ($24.95 & $34.95) cheaper than the Tunze products, and they have versions for Maxi-Jet, Seio as well as Tunze.

Those look nice, but overpriced. Unfortunately, with no real competition, that's how it goes... (I don't know about the Tunze products, i'm assuming they are even more overpriced.)

I would have expected a clip with magnet inside to cost a little less than $30:/

I just got it. Its magnet is much stronger than maga float. Watch out your finger tip if you have one.

Anyone find a way to mount a maxijet in the middle of their tank so the flow shoots towards the front of the tank instead of the sides?

I want the flow to blow directly towards the center front of the tank. The direction I want the flow to go requires a slot for attaching to be on the top of the maxijet instead of on the sides where they are already available. The magnet free mounts will be perfect for regular mounting. Ordered some of those already :)

I was curious if anyone found a way to mount it in the configuration I'm looking for.

Im not sure if im understanding you right but with the MJ you can point the outlet in any direction you want. Also there should be 3 slots for you to slide your suction clip on to. 2 sides and 1 on the back. Since i have a corner tank i just used the suction cups on the side and pointed the outlet so its flowing centered and towards the front of my tank.

I want the maxijet in the middle of the top back of the tank pointing to the middle of the top front of the tank.... or something like that. Show me that configuration with the slots they give you :)

Picked one up at the LFS ($36 so not too much more than online) the other day.

It works GREAT. It's more expensive than suction cups but I'm really glad that I don't have to worry about the suction cups getting brittle every 6-8 months. I might pick up a bunch of the rare earth magnets on e-bay and make some for my smaller PHs. I'll stick with these big guys for my Seios though.

So, you want the powerhead to be placed in the middle of the back tank wall up near the top.

You want the output to be directed towards the middle of the front tank wall up near the top.

Correct?

place the suction clip on one of the sides and turn the outlet in the direction you want

That's correct Marc.

Not sure that these magnets will work for that. It will however give me peace of mind so I don't worry my pumps fall and blow sand all over the coral :)

You can have that configuration with the stock maxi-jet kit. There are slots on the powerhead in the back, and on both sides. The output nozzle will also swivel almost 360 degrees.

Why can't you get the flow pattern now?

thank you. thats what i was trying to say.

My maxijet is modded for super flow :P Maybe that's why it won't work. My nozzle doesn't turn that 360 degrees.

even with the mod you should still be able to put the suction clip on the back side slots.
