rwhhunt: I grew all of mine under 2 LOA 65W CF lights from HomeDepot. The lights were adjustible in height so as the Mangroves grew, I would pull the light up a little higher. I always tried to keep them 12" above the plants head.
Now I'm growing them under 3 50w Spot-gro bulbs and a 6500K CF all ceiling mounted in track lighting fixtures. With the new fixtures (and home) the plants are an average of 12" away (very tall stand as this refugium used to dump into the display) from the bulbs.
Growth hasn't even slowed down IMHO. I'm still pruning leaves/buds every week to maintain the form.
Triterium: Thanks for the images, I'll be ordering a pile of those next time. I'm not sure why my Prop's all root with deep red to orange roots, but it looks like it doesn't matter in regards to the plants health.
Maybe it's water chemistry related... what's your Salinity/spec's?
I'm running:
SpecGrav: 1.024
NO3: 0
Ca: 420-460ppm
Alk: 8-12 DKh
PO4: detectible...
Never tested for Iron... yet.
Thanks,
John.
