New Mantis, G. chiragra i think!

Hallo,

i ordered a O. scyllarus last week and i was really happy that my dealer told me yesterday the animal is here.

Now i have no O.scyllarus, but a Gonodactylus chiragra female i think.
The meral spots are white.
It seems that she had a hard life in Bali. A lot of scratches and other damage on the whole body.
Here are some pics for correct ID.

I feed the smaller one with artemia, small krill and small pieces of shrimps. Sometimes (once a week) they get small crabs that i collect from the live rocks.

The bigger mantis get frozen shrimps, fish and bigger crabs.
It's very impressive when they get life crabs.

I feed my mantis every second day!

Yep, that looks like a G. chiraga as well. I have a female G. chiraga myself (Freya).

A lot of that damage should go away with a molt or two (Dr. Roy, feel free to smack down my statement if incorrect...).
I feed my mantis every day or two, with constant snails and hermits in there if they get hungry. Twice a week it's 'Fiddler dinner', or sometimes ghost shrimp as an alternate.

Here are some new pics and you can see the damage. Either its shell disease and she will die soon or she had a very hard live before and regenerates with a couple of molts.

wow, that pretty severe... I hope she pulls through, I have heard there is not much you can do for shell disease....hopefully that is not the case.

I'm now shure that is not shell disease. The animal has molted and looks pretty nice now. 90% of the damages are gone.

Did you ever get a O.S.?

I just upgraded my O.S. tank from a little 7g glass Bow to a 20L Acrylic, she's hiding in the big rock now.

QUESTION for anyone: When they molt do they do it in stages? Parts here and there? Or do they do it all at once? The reason I'm asking my O.S. has been hiding lately and when I changed tanks I found some fresh shell parts from her in the old tank.

Where did you get the acryllic 20gal? I'm just curious because I'm looking into either a 20 or 30gal for an O. scyllaru or G. ternatensis and would like to go acryllic. Not trying to hijack the thread though.
