New maxima not open much

I bought a small beautiful blue maxima about a week ago. I had him on a rock on the bottom, but either a fish moved him off, or he moved off into the sand bed. The times I found him, he was sideways. I anchored him better in the sand, but he is only slightly open. Is it too much light? I have him under Solaris leds. The lights are 9" above the tank, and he is at 24 inches- on the bottom. I have a huge squamosa at the top, that was raised under vho fluor. I want to move him up on the reef after he acclimates, but I'm not sure about the light level. What else would make him only partially open? He is not in strong current. Thanks.

that is probably it, they like flow but not directed toward them, it makes them pull their mantle in........ ;)

try moving or blocking him, if that doesn't work post a pic, list your fish / inverts, list everything you dose and post all your water params.
