new maxima ?'s

I just got a new 2'' maxima today. after acclimating I was inaa little hurry and placed him on the sandbed.. So, I get home and go to move him to paace a small piece of rock underneath so I can find a suitable spot after he settles in.. Well, it has already attached to the bottom of the glass thru the sand.. it just seems to keep burrowing.. should I worry about the sand around it, will it irritate it? should I move some of the sand so its not so deep on the shell? is this normal for it to attach within hours? also I was kind of thinking the flow may have been a little more than I would like it to have but, would it have attached if he didn't like the spot its in? sorry for all the questions, but thanks for any help..

I would take a sharp knife and cut the byssal threads and put it on the rock. Maxima's and Crocea's are the most light demanding clams and should be up on the rocks.

I know nothing about clams; however, if it were unhappy/irritated i would think it wouldn't move vs. burrow in.

also I have a 250w MH.. its about 20in from it.. will it be hurting it in the sand?

can you post a pic? In your first post I got the feeling the clam was burying itself deep in the sand and was in too much flow. If that is the case I would move it. If you think it is fine now I think your light is enough for it where it sits.

unfortunately im going online from my Moto Q cell phone. so posting a pic can't happen.. I think it was just digging in too attach its byssal threads cause it was expanding as much as I would expect for it being in the tank for only a few hours when the MH was on.

I have a "new" maxima as well (almost had it a month). I placed it in one spot midway up on my rocks, after a couple of weeks, it moved and fell to the substrate (crushed coral). The I moved it to a different position further up on my rocks, this morning it has moved and fell again to the substrate. Should I leave him down there, or just keep picking him back up?

Here's what I did to my maxima. I put a small clam shell buried just slightly below the sand and place the maxima on top of it. The clam quickly attached itself to the clam shell. I then glued the clam shell to a piece of LR, worked like a charm. This way you can place the shell and the clam where ever you want it!

left for work today with the clam still attached and looking great as it has been since I laced it in my tank. came home from work to it being un attached and almost jumping on the bottom of the sand trying to move.. I placed a piece of LR under it and it is still there. idk what happened. idk if one of the fishes bothered it or what. now it just doesn't look rite or as good as it did earlier. its almost half open with small amt of expansion compared to it being fully expanded earlier..

its still light responsive.. but before it would usually completely close its shell now it stays open a slightly and it just sucks in.. that's not normal rite?

First of all a disclaimer..... I'm not a clam expert, but my maxima always stays a little open when the lights are out. As a matter of fact it doesn't completely close its' shell! I think it's fine as long as it is light responsive.
