You could always place a small pane of plastic or glass on the water to get a better pic.

You're not that confused are you? I've been looking at stuff at a store and haven't thought of doing it here, I'm the one confused here. What do you use?

To view clams without turning off the pumps? I personally just grab something (anything really, an old game cartridge, measuring cup, etc.). One LFS I went to had plexi-glass boxes to look at their livestock from the top down. Sorry if I'm not making much sense. It's late at night and I'm not good at explaining things in the first place.
