New Mertensii

This one now belongs to another member of this board (and this thread). It's about 8" across. You can see its foot to the left. No, it's not purple. That is just an artifact of the camera and the glass.

Only under actinics should you see reddish coloring.

Those actinics also make for very create coloring affects. Even multicolor looks.

Lighter colored mertens are mostly stressed.

As it becomes more acclimated, it will bring more water into its body. It's not growth really as they aren't adding anymore tissue, but they do get bigger, sometimes a lot bigger, when they get happy in their new environment.

This is my first one after just a day or two in my tank.

Here it is only a month later. Now they can grow pretty fast, but this initial "growth" is just them getting back to their natural size by re-filling their body with water.

has anyone experienced a change in color of their mertens? i have a brown one, but the tips of its tentacles are greenish, and the mouth area appears to be gaining green....could i actually see a more completely green mertens at some point?

I was being facetious .....
I realized that you were joking a little. I was just letting you know what to expect.
Judging from your pictures, it does looks like your anemone is re-inflating and actually is getting a little bigger.

Well it's only been 9 days. This guy is still settling in. Eating good. Only shrinks at night. Only by about 10% or so. He's starting to drape down the side of the rockscape. Hopefully after a month or so he will be nice and cozy.

Looking good! Assuming those clowns are average sized clowns, it looks like it almost doubled in size from when I saw it in the store. That shot of the new tentacles is sweet.

The male is about 2.5" and the female is 3" long. The nem measured 9" across this morning. It's growing like a weed !!

I was wondering about this guy a couple days ago. Nice! Keep us updated! I'm glad to see it's doing well. Are those new tent sprouts, or existing ones that are just taking their time to come back?
