New MH bulb question?

So I just got home with my new MH replacement bulb. I am planning on replacing both of my 250w bulbs. Well this new bulb wont fire up. I don't have much experience with these as I just purchased the light set up. To me the bulb looks to be used. What is a new bulb supposed to look like> The ends of the gas part is white. But the ceramic piece that runs along the side is plain white as it if it has seen no heat. Please let me know what I should be looking for. Thanks!

Try swapping the bulb to another socket & see if your ballast is working. Also, depending on what type ballast you have, might take a little time to fire up. My Hamiltons take longer than my IceCaps.....

well the ballast works with my other bulb. Should I see at least a little flicker when it comes on? I dunno. Thanks!

not for sure, but aren't there some bulbs that only light up on certain ballasts? mercury vs magnetic

yep icecap will fire almost any bulb out thier. magnetic you stuck with hamiltons and xms and cant think of others.

i tried coralife on a magnetic ballast and they fired once but not the second time. not the reeflux version

OK well I am just going to sell these bulbs to someone that needs them on RC. cost $60 shipped. I sell for $50 to whoever needs them. 250w 14000k M59 bulbs not the M58 I needed.
