Hi everyone, well i just finished adding all my new lights 70 W 14k MH , 32W of actinic t-5 and 32w 10k t-5. I have all that about 8 inches from my tank (20g long). I have been a little worried to keep the lights on due to possible overheating while I'm at school. Should i be worried or am i over exaggerating. also, should i keep the sps higher or not since its only 12 inches tall.

IMO, to keep SPS you need a minimum of 150W MH, plus the fact that you are running 14000K instead of 10000K which further cut down the PAR. You might be able to keep some of the least demanding SPS alive but I guess they are going to be very brown.
As for the over heating issue, I guess this question can only be answered by yourself. All you need to do is dump a thermometer and turn on the light and see how high it gets. I wouldn't let it go over 84 deg.
