New "Monster Tank Forum"?

Is there any interest in a new Monster Tank forum for those with tanks say, 700 gallons or larger? I think the equipment requirements are obviously a bit different for systems this large and I think it would be cool to have a forum dedicated to those uniquely large systems. I noticed a need for this while searching for info for the 1500 gallon tank I'm planning. Thoughts?

I think it is a good idea, but usually the large tank forum covers most of it. But it probably is hard to get info on them because not too many people have that big of a tank. I think your best bet to collect info is call Fish Stores around the country of what kind of equipment they use to filter their reefs/fish systems. I know Vivid Aquariums in California have a big system and their tanks are amazing! I have seen first hand their show tank and its stunning but still 700 gallons. So I think the forum for tanks this big will only get "Gawkers" and not too much experience traffic

I do not think a forum for every type of tank build is what the administration is planning on for the site. Its easy enough to subscribe to threads to help navigate the site. Just my $.02

I just thought it would be a neat idea since the equipment requirements are a bit different. I personally think that a 180 gallon tank is not a "large" tank any more and has very little in common with a much larger 700g+ tank. Not that I am belittling those...just saying. There are better methods of doing some pretty common things for larger tanks that just don't get discussed here and I think that the main reason for that is that there are a lot of people without much experience with very large systems offering advice that may not be the best for these large applications...

Although an interesting idea, its a relatively small niche within a small niche and probably wouldn't get a heck of a lot of activity.

True....Then again, remember like 10 years ago when a 200 gallon tank was considering really big? Now it's practically the standard! We're seeing the average tank size increase more and more as time goes on...

I think there is a larger community than we can see. I share some of the concerns that the info for 1000+ G is 'different' than a 200 G. Again this is not meant as a criticism. I believe that the advice from a 1000+ may well not be appropriate for a 200.

With much of the communication on the forum not differentiating between large and monster tanks sometimes its difficult to really compare apples to apples. I am in the process of establishing a 1400G DT with 25+ tanks in the fish room for support. I am woefully naive about managing an environment of this magnitude but I am realizing that the experience and knowledge base is very small and specific.

This is new territory for most of us. We are the foundation for a growing interest in larger environments and I don't think it would do any harm to recognize that many of the issues associated with Monster tanks would best be focused in a true collective of participants in their own forum........not as an elitist group but as a new growing group with unique characteristics.

If we were to start a Monster Tank Forum, then we would all have to upgrade:D

This forum is under-utilized as it is mainly all build threads. If the questions are posed, folks in the know will be here to see them as this forum gets a pretty fair amount of traffic.

As the science gets smarter our tanks will get larger and larger. Seems like every day something changes...skimmers...lights its a good thing!
