When I have a fish in quarantine, I change a gallon of water every, single day using water from the display. My QT is a 12 gallon JBJ nano. I also keep a Seachem ammonia badge in the QT. They turn color whenever there is a hint of ammonia in the tank. There are valid reasons to have a quarantine tank, among them learning what the fish will and will not eat and giving him a chance to fatten up before he has to deal with other fish. Don't give up on quarantine...keeping your existing fish healthy is most important.
