not sure about too big but noisy for sure.skimmer on a 10g imo is overkill,i have a 10g mostly sps nano,& dont use a skimmer,up & running for almost 2yrs now.Just my 2cents.
You can use a simple hang-on-back filter, I reccomend the ac110 or larger since there are a ton of mods that can be done to it and its see through . Live rock is also a good bio filtration due to the critters on there filtering the water constatly. Also, if your bacteria levels are well colonized, your tank should be stable. Try aragonite or calcium based substrates as they increase the bufeering capability of your tank (buffers are something that prevents quick and rapid changes in PH, which is very essential to the health of your tank!)
i 2nd his opinion i have a 12 nano no skimmer loaded with sps i do a weekly water change carbon once a month for a week and 6 gallons top off a week cuz i have a 150 hqi on my 12 open top so it evaporates alot. but you should be fine with no skimmer just keep up on the water changes...good luck
I have a 65g. I was basically going to seed the new nano with everything from my established tank some rock some sand etc. I was going to do a deep sand bed probably 3 to 5 inches in some areas. It is going to be an all softie tank with zoos and mushrooms nothing special. I was going to do a dual PC setup over it. I have an AC HOB filter on my 65g right now but im waiting for my much larger hang on refugium. I think i will take that one off my tank when the new refiguim arrives and make that into a small fuge for the nano. Hows that sound. Oh for livestock i am just going to do a pair of clowns.
