New Naso.....new problem

On again Off again Reefer
Well I picked up a Naso this past weekend and he has started to eat a bit which is good. Brine and flake mostly.

Yesterday after work I noticed that he has a ton of little black specks all over the grey part of him. Its like ich but not.... or is it?

Does ich come in black?

Yes that is it exactly!!!!!!

I'm [profanity]!!!!!!!!! I was hesitant on buying that fish as it didn't eat in the store. I was supposed to be getting a blonde but..............I'm not going there at the moment. I was told that someone else was coming to get it by another employee, even though I offered to pay for it a week earlier and then come and pick it up later and was said it would be held .......................

Where did you buy it? Fresh water dip? Does this mean no salt? What do you add to get the PH the same as the tank water? Just curious.

I'd rather not say where it came from. There is a baking soda trick that you do to the fresh water. I'll post it when I find it.

Sorry man, that is one thing that I have got used of doing. Buying on impulse. Unless it is super rare I will wait everytime. Lost way too much $$$$$ over the years.
It should be OK. It is not that uncommon.

Oh I can express myself just fine with or without.... I have kids too, but when you spend a bunch of money on something that turns out to be bad or not what you expected (like an S2000) you tend to get mad or be dissapointed and say things that some see as inappropriate. Sorry

Ade - I'm holding my hopes up. I'll give you all an update as the days go by.

dude, i think you need to go a little slower....you are buying way too many fish/corals too quickly....karma is bound to bite you in the rump. ;)

I just got one fish (naso), a clam (only 2 inches) and 2 paly frags (single polyps) oh and a small acan frag too (maybe 3 polyps). Is that too much to add?

Did you save any of the water from your old tank? If you did then you shouldn't have needed too much cycling. Plus all the cheato you have you will be fine, you just might want a strong protein skimmer.

well, you just set up this new tank, correct?

normally, you shouldn't really be adding really sensitive corals/fish to new systems that aren't established yet.

i think you said somewhere you used mostly brand new salt to fill up the new tank?

I had to use about 40 new. Yeah, I think I'm going to hold off on anything new for a good while and see how things settle in. I'm not too thrilled with the scape too, but that is a different thread. I shall heed your advice mang!!

Hey Turbo, hollar at me if you have any question about getting that naso to eat. You should be feeding it nori, not flake food or brine shrimp (which are horribly non-nutritious). Try buying a few kinds of nori, soaking them in garlic, then rubberbanding them really close to a few small rocks (with none sticking up). Drop the rocks in with your fish and it'll be eating nori in no time.

I've recommended this to several people for which it has worked to get their tangs to start eating. After a little while the fish will recognize nori as food, and you can just feed it on the clip rather than rubberbanded to rocks.

edit: I just saw that you recently set up a 90g tank. Is that what you put the naso in?

Yes. I just set it up. It ate like a pig and I did have Nori in the tank for my other tang on a clip and it didn't seem interested in it. It ate pretty much everything other than he Nori which I thought odd... I took him back and all will be well once he gets a few dips.
