New Obsession - mini-maxi's

I bought my first one two days ago and just love it
..now for the questions....
1...it has settled right by a colony of blastos....will either harm the other?
2...how often to feed it...couple times a week?
3...I assume health is judged in the same manner as larger anemones?

This is my first anemone even though I have been in the hobby for 6 years and I just love it.

WEEDS!!!!, lol. They are like any other nem, they can move and sting other corals, including your blastos. With that said I have a few that were near a Kenya tree (another weed i didn't care if it died), the Kenya tree was fine. The tentacles on the mini-maxis are pretty small so they would have to crawl all over your blastos to do any real dmg. Just touching the edge they might damage part of the edge, but probably wont do much else. They do operate a little different then my BTA's, they do not ever show signs of deflation, if you feed do not feed large pieces of food. Treat them more similar to a LPS coral head, feed them small items such as mysis or brine.

Good luck with them, and just watch how they spread, they multiply very fast.

Also I do not feed mine and I got one on a rock with something else 2 months ago, and now I have 4 of them. They are located on their own rock on the bottom of the tank and stay there for now.

i have one... not a big fan, lol, it hasnt reproduced at all either, it just sits there like a glorifyed mushroom, haha... i need to get a sexy shrimp for it

TY all.. I hope they aren't weeds..been there done that..lol

So far so good I think it is pretty..will see how this one goes before adding a more colorful one;)

they do move a lot until they find a spot they like. mine doesnt like too much light. feed mine once a week with mysis.

Why out of curiosity, what are the issues? Maybe forwarned will help..:D

There aren't issues really, it's just not as neat as I was thinking it would be.. It crawled all the way around my tank, and climbed a foot into my rock work. The nem hasn't moved since last April and is right under one of my monster RBTAs and gets stung occasionally.... If I didn't have it, there would be more room for BTAs in my tank....

I have to say that I recently developed an obsession with mini-maxi's as well...it all started when I got a mini anemone at my LFS a few months ago... Fast forward and now I have added three maxi's. It's pretty interesting how they all seem to have their likes to dislikes (as far as flow and lighting are concerned.) Anemones are individuals too. :)

Thanks Sandra for info on your clowns, I know they don't host clowns, but clowns will use almost anything they choose for a home if a hosting anenome isn't availbable.

I've read of Condys & elephant ear corls eating clowns & also some haddonis if the clowns aren't naturally hosted.

I've got a small clown that is probably done growing & is smalller than 2". Just want to make sure if I buy one of these in the future that they won't sting clownfish.

honestly I don't think they are big enough, full grown the anemone is to be about 6"..but I will say it does hold onto the pieces of stuff I have fed it the two times this past week..

I'm loving mine. I've had one for a couple years now. Never moves. I recently grabbed a couple more...

I'm not very knowledgeable on the different species. I had one that literally looked like a mini carpet...no frilly outer rim tentacles like the ones above. It was a nightmare...crawled all around th base of my acros killing them...over and over. Finally was able to remove it.

the yellow one is beautiful! Think if I continue that will be my next color..there are actual mini carpet anemones because I could have gotten one recently at a frag swap but those kind of worry me ;). Mine moved to its current location over two days and it is nice cause it is in the front of the tank..I just moved the blastos just in case.
