New Octo HOB 800s look

aqucave has them listed now, what a deal....
* Includes 2nd impeller and Enkamat for mesh wheel modification

the neck is too small unless it I only pull 12 or13scfh

That thing looks loud a bit as well but I do think the neck will be a problem

I'm considering the BH 1000 and 2000 models which have the pump below and outside the body of the skimmer.
Does anyone see any disadvantages or advantages with this design over the 100F?

Got home and opened my present, wow this thing is huge compared to my Bak Pak 2.

My batteries died so when this thing gets broken in and starts producing skimmate I'll post some more. One thing that I'm not liking is the short power cord.
GSM, this thing is very quiet, it comes with lids and a silencer, I sit in the other room and can not hear it running. My fan is louder than the skimmer. And the cup is huge, the neck is 2 inches ISD and cup 6x3x6.5. I'll post some more tomorrow when I get batteries.

Looks good for a $239 skimmer with a quality pump.

I ordered mine from Salty Critter and picking it up on Saturday.

cveverly, make sure to use the set screw for the collection cup. I was watching TV when I heard water overflowing, found that the level jumped on me and filled the cup then the weight dropped the cup all the way down causing the overflow. Wasn't too bad, good thing I cought it before I went to bed. the pump almost seems too big, it's really pushing a lot of bubbles, I have to keep the cup very high causing a lot of the bubbles in the chamber to go through the overflow in the return chamber and all the bubbles end up in the tanks. Hopefully this will change as it gets broken in and the cup is below the overflow.

My 100F has the same set screw. I suspect it will settle down in a couple days. I am going to run vinegar through mine for a day before I put it on the tank. This generally speeds up the break in time.

I see they eliminated the TEE in the return line. Is the return line larger than the suction line?

Yes it is, about 1/2 inch or more. It's already settled down so I dropped a little and it's starting to produce skimmate.

Awesome to hear. Mine shipped today, can't wait for it to arrive!

Hey crashrat, how well does the siphon work? If you power off the skimmer will it restart properly, or do you have to redo the siphon every time? This was one thing that annoyed me about the 100F.

It started back up fine for me when I powered off the pump.

I have never had a problem with my 100F restarting. I shut it off everyday when I feed and it always restarts. I wonder if you have a loose fitting or a bad shutoff valve in your suction line that is allowing it to leak air.

First full day and it's starting to setting down. I had a hard time adjusting the cup. Too low first and flooded the cup, once I found the sweet spot it started to skim, wet but still producing a lot of nice foam. Aquacave forgot to send the extra pin wheel for the mesh mod, so one this thing gets broken in I'm going to replace the wheel and see what the mesh does. So far I am very impressed with this thing, especially for the price. The pump alone is $125 plus another 15 for the extra wheel. I'll post some skimmate as soon as it gets brokne in.

How loud is it? Is the pump hard to service being in the skimmer like that? Does it have overflow protection?

Thanks

Ryan

It is not loud at all, like I said earlier my fan is louder than the skimmer, the only noise comes from the ventri muffler, and that is minimal. I actually think my Bak Pak with the resun pump was louder. Yes it has overflow protection, a 1/4" hole from the reaction chamber above the cup to the overflow. As far as servicing the pump, it pulls out of the bulkhead very easily and the cord has to go through the over flow chamber to the reaction chamber. The filter stopper comes off very easily so the cord can fit back through, getting the pump out is not tough at all, putting it back in the only trick is threading the cord from one chamber to the other.

So has it settled down for you? Is it still releasing bubbles into the tank? Any skimmate screen shots? I am really looking for something to replace my Remora Pro.

Just noticed you are a fellow SE MN guy. I am from Winona myself.
