New Odantanthias Discovered in PR

Is there any reason why that fish seems to be measured like that? It looks as though the "0" has been placed by its eye rather than the tip of the mouth.

My guess is that the ruler was just placed there to give a general idea of the fish size, not to actually be used to measure it.

Note: if a site is censored when you type the name, do not re-type the name to avoid the restriction.

Edit: Haha, got my answer :)

It's just something to do with problems with that specific sight, not a general rule about links ;)

BTW, the nature of the origins of those problems are such that I wouldn't consider that site a reliable source of information about most anything.

Well, at any rate I hope that news of this fish is legitimate! It sure is beautiful. Either way, I doubt we'll see them make it into the hobby (but I can hope!).

Here's the pic, beautiful fish :)

Strangely enough the original info came through a well-known puerto rican spearfisherman, I'm guessing it initially got passed onto him for id.

Certain sites are restricted due to past violations of our terms of service.

Why not just ban the user?

Hypothetically speaking, would you censor people from saying "Advanced Aquarist" or linking to that website if Terry Siegel acted up on RC? (Purely hypothetical of course, Terry is great.)

To me it seems like this is useful and interesting information that should be shared with as many people as possible--discovering new species and expanding our understanding of the oceans and it's being censored because of a silly beef between 2 websites.

Shrug--hope this doesn't come across the wrong way.

Since your premise is flawed, there is no way to respond to that comment.

I will ask that posts remain on topic.

KT- yep it is a deepwater species.

BTW- I did not intend for this thread to cause problems and as such I did not post any links.

Mods- The thread can be closed if any more off topic posts are made.

Ok, so to keep it on topic here is some more information about the fish. It was fished with hook and line at very deep waters (400+ feet), nobody ever saw one diving. It is a very large fish for the average aquarium, the one in the photo is about 10 inches long. I will post an update if I hear anything more about it.
