new optical sensor?

Hi Roger,

I have a Tunze auto topoff, the 5017 model. I've been having an issue with the sensor"¦.the other day it failed to shut off until the upper level control tripped and shut it off, then a couple days later I noticed the low level won't light and trigger the top off to fill. Is it possible the sensor is bad? I have soaked it in vinegar and gently wiped it with a cloth but still shows the green light when plugged in even though the water is not up to the sensor. It does do the initial yellow/green 2 sec fill then shuts off and goes to just green even though the water is still low.

Any suggestions or do I just need a new optic sensor?

Thanks, Mary

Yes, it sounds like the optic sensor has failed and we can replace it, just send in the controller with the hardwired sensors and include a note with your return address and phone number.

The space is quite small on the board and the optic sensors rarely fail, they should last many years. Even with a plug it would not be a DIY repair in most cases, we generally have to do a calibration as well, older units often did not need this but occasionally we had to replace a capacitor to match the sensor, newer units since Nov 2011 must be calibrated and this requires a special cable for computer connection.
